Spielberg won't do Indy 5

I also want to see more Indy movies set back in the 20s to the 40s with a younger actor, but not a reboot, have them in continuity with the Ford movies. The only stumbling block is that Ford doesn't want a recast. And if he doesn't give his blessing to the new actor it won't work.

It doesn't even really have to be a complete reboot. One way I've been envisioning it is by Harrison Ford as we know him, to tell some of his earlier stories to a younger generation, perhaps even grandkids, and have a younger actor playing him in those scenes. I think the unfortunate thing about Crystal Skull is that it was so big in its concept that it's kind of hard to move beyond that, because what more can be said after that? So, I think going back to the past would be a good idea. That said, I think new blood could revitalize these movies.

I'm curious how they're going to Indy's marriage to Marion, and Mutt.

Basically a big screen Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. I'm down for that.

Yep, use Harrison Ford's Indy as a framing device for a story of his earlier days being told. There's tons of potential. And best of all, it technically means he doesn't have to give up the character.

Hell, why's it got to be Henry Jones, Jr. at all? How many supernatural impossibilities can he learn are real, only to shrug off the next possibility? Why not introduce another adventurer in the same era?

It's way safer to keep the lightning you already have, than try to catch it in a bottle twice.

Since Indy was supposed to Spielberg and Lucas's own James Bond, there is no reason why the character can't be recast like 007. And unlike Bond they can keep the character as a period piece.

That's a viable idea as long as the franchise remains popular enough to be commercially viable. If it isn't, well, there would be your reason why he couldn't be recast.

I like Mangold a lot but to me to not have Speilberg and to have a aging Harrison Ford to me makes this movie just not really interesting. Makes me think of the latest "Terminator" movie where you just know the whole point of the movie is to basically try and reboot it for a younger audience and keep the brand going and to me that just doesn't interest me.

Yeah these passing of the torch movies are getting boring. If that’s what this new Indy is going to be I’m out.

Mangold is a good director but I don’t really recall seeing anything by him with that sense of fun and adventure that the Indy movies had at their best. Doesn’t mean he can’t find it now, of course.

Well, this is kind of too bad. It's a shame Spielberg couldn't stick it out to the end. On the other hand, the fact that Lucas bowed out didn't bother me a bit, so I guess I can deal with it. As long as Harrison Ford is in, I'll at least give it a chance.

Why not introduce another adventurer in the same era?

Because then technically it wouldn't be Indy? If another adventurer, it would have to be a spinoff. You can't have it be a different adventurer and still have it be called Indy.
