I love this episode. Especially the fact that we finally get a lot of world building for the Romulans. A thing that was sadly neglected for the most time during the Berman era.

We know only what we have been told therefore can only form opinions based on those facts. We also know the Romulans pulled some shenanigans so there likely was some corruption.
Tell that to The Red Cross. Tell that to Gandhi. Tell that to Fred Cox. Tell that to Zephram Cochran or Surak or Kahless. One of Star Trek preeminent messages has been "one person CAN make a difference."
Absolutely, that what makes or breaks a hero! In this case we see it broke Picard and now he is on a quest for redemption.
I didn't love this episode. I liked it just okay. However, it made me love the entire series so much more, if that makes sense?
Like, this episode was what was a "planet-of-the-hats" episodes back in the days. And I didn't really care much about this' episodes main plot surrounding Elnor. But I absolutely loved that this type of episode is back, a story of the week, just better integrated into a new series format. How it connects with the main plot of the series, and just feels so much like "Star Trek" should feel. Also, they got all the little details right, from the little character moments, the new warp effect, the new and familiar Romulans, the fucking Warbird, to finally having starship battles with phaser beams again (instead of the "pew-pew"-bolts).

So the Romulan pub/bar whatever it was had a sign that said 'Romulans Only'. There was also another building in the background that had a sign that said 'No Romulans'.
DSC Season 2 used beams too (though the little fighter things still used bolts)
The series could a little better by keeping Data more in focus. That might even just mean a simple 3 seconds of Picard reflecting on a picture of him..
Because it's hard to engage with Picard's purpose here. Go get the bookish miserly Maddox over several episodes is not exactly a thriller of an objective. I know he needs Maddox to get to Data's other daughter? But still it's hard to get your teeth fully into this.
I'm enjoying most of these episodes as episodes.
But the purposefullness of the show as an arc show could do with being strengthened.
