No, sorry, never heard of it XD
But most of my pre-50s movie knowledge ends with Charlie Chaplin, Nosferatu, and Metropolis.

Of course 120 year old material can be rebooted. I just think that it only makes sense when the last version was terrible, or the style or technology has become too different. Like The Fly made sense, cause the original was in grayscale with low-quality effects. So telling that story again with some twists and 80s effects worked well. (Same for The Thing!)

But I think shows like VOY or movies like BTTF are not old enough, don't look dated enough, and weren't bad enough to warrant any remake at this time. The Mummy remake was pointless, cause the previous Mummy still was young enough to not look old in style or effects, and it was a very good movie.

Studios need to make money. Reboots are often a safer option.

Bless you for calling the Brendan Fraser movie the "previous" Mummy, not the "original" Mummy as people too often do these days.

The original THE MUMMY was back in 1932, damn it. :)

By my count, the Brendan Fraser movie was at least the third remake of the original Karloff film.

Safer, yes, and they also reintroduce the story, characters etc to a new generation, not that that is needed necessarily. I used to loathe most remakes (and still don't love most I've seen), but I can now look at friends' kids and see them enjoy some of the same stuff I did but in a different style or manner. It's kind of cool...

The original is the best imho. Zita Johann was great and she seemed sort of atypical (in a good way) for a heroine at that time.

Exactly. Every generation deserves their own Zorro or Sherlock Holmes or maybe even Seven of Nine.

And, honestly, Hollywood has been in the remake business since the silent era. Objecting to remakes is like objecting to the sun rising in the east. It's the nature of the beast.

I will go to my grave insisting that the 1966 remake of ONE MILLION YEARS B.C. is better than the original 1940 version.

I mean, it's got Raquel Welch and Ray Harryhausen dinosaurs!

I was watching The Gift tonight, and there was one thought that crossed my mind. I would love to see a version of Voyager where Kim actually did die in Scorpion and we spent the next 4 years with Kes and Seven together. I think it would have been great.

That at least I was aware of ;)

Haven't seen the original Mummy yet... if they'd put more of these classics on Netflix, I'd watch them.

Fo shiz. (I'm lookin' at you, Valley of Gwangi!) ;)

I recommend your local library (if you have access to it, that is). It's a good, free resource and many libraries have good catalog of older films and classics.

    Also
Yes but it would be in a alternate universe staring Seven of Nine so in away we would be getting a Seven series. In my idea the show is set in Picard time so we don't have to de-age any actors or anything liked that. In that universe Voyager is going to be one of 3 ships sent to explore the Delta Quadrant through a artificial wormhole for a 5 year mission. Seven of Nine who was never assimilated by the Borg is the Captain of Voyager. Tuvok and Kim are captain of the other ships who will be semi-regulars on the show.

    The main cast is

    1 Captain Seven of Nine
    2 Ambassdor Janeway Kate Mulgrew
3 EMH who will have counterpoints on the other ships as well. They choose this over regular doctors
4 Torres and Paris's daughter who still found each other in this universe but aren't along because the actors have busy directing careers
5 African American Romulan male first officer. First Romulan in Starfleet. Romulus just recently joined the Federation in tis universe after their planet got destroyed and thus many officers were brought directly into.
6 young female pilot who is gay or trans. Kind of a wildcard type
7 Carrey only as a series regular now and chief engineer.

Reason I say Seven of Nine instead of Anika Hanson is because in first episode she is assimilated by Borg and then we cut 5 years later and she is rescued and has to sort of reclaim her life now with the trauma of being a Borg. In those 5 years The Romulan guy was captain but Seven of course is the star and the first season is about a mutiny over who leads. We have seen mutinies before but never a season arc about one. Also for some reason they tech won't allow them to reopen a wormhole to got back to the AQ so we might have something to do with some aliens who fight the Borg and want to take steal these ships for their fight with them.

I would rather slit my throat than see one of today's lousy actresses with Goodyear tyres instead of lips try to portrait Kes.

I didn’t mean recast Kes. I was thinking more what if it was the same time period and Garritt Wang did leave while Lien stayed and you still had Jeri Ryan. It’s more an alternate universe wish than a simple recasting.

One of my favorite movie memories is watching a triple feature of TROG, VALLEY OF THE GWANGI, and WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH at the drive-in.

    Spoiler alert: I'm old. :)

In that case I totally agree! :techman:

However, in that alternate universe I could also imagine to keep Harry as well.
