??????????????????? Really ??????
Data' shoved Picard aside and slapped the transporter thingy on him.
Picard's face as he was beamed away, said it all as to how deeply it was going to affect him the rest of his life.
I’m not buying it. That’s just not Picard.
Data sacrificed himself so he could live and have a life. Not to become whatever this is.

I get wanting to have the cool, ship-for-hire captain. But this guy is a dud for me. A poser. Hopefully someone will blow him out an airlock and someone better takes command.
As soon as Tilly showed up on Discovery I wanted someone to blow her out of an airlock, but it never happened. At least this guy isn't as annoying as she is. If anything, his EMH is entertaining.

Then you have no idea how badly a dear friends death can affect you.
I hope you never have to experience that.

A few years ago my best friend and co-worker for 30 years was run over and killed by an 88 year old lady who shouldn't have been driving.
I think about him every single day and wish like Hell that I had been there with him when he crossed that street.
We were supposed to go to brunch together that morning, but I over slept and called him an hour before that fateful moment to reschedule for lunch.

It most certainly does effect me on a daily basis.

Wasn’t really a fan of this episode. Found it rather dull. Probably should have released all 3 as one. 5/10
The flashback at the beginning just didn’t sound like Picard. I’m not talking about his voice which sounded older. I mean his character. I just don’t see him giving up that easily. Kirk wouldn’t have..

But that's because the writers didn't let Kirk fail, and the premise of this show is that Picard did fail.

I suppose we could have stretched that scene out with Picard trying a bunch more stuff that also doesn't work, but I don't think that version would have made you happier.

5 minutes is enough to recognize a poser. A weak Solo-wannabe born of writers block, and lack of imagination. Scruffy beard AND he doesnt mind hunks of metal in his shoulder! Wow, he's a toughy alright! They should have given him a pirate hoop earring and an eye patch. Shiver me timbers!!

Wow, going to chew on this bone all night, aren't you? He's not tough, he's broken. There is a difference. Probably why he hangs with Raffi, too.

Maybe it wouldn't make Thribs happy but it would make me happy. One of the reviews I read after the premiere said that this was finally "prestige TV" for Star Trek and so far.....I'm not seeing that. I'm seeing a standard 44-minute show that looks great. A prestige show would run 60 minutes and GIVE us those meaty bits. Show Picard try, and gradually lose his faith.

They will either sprinkle more flashbacks throughout the series to allude to that, or they omitted it entirely because they thought the argument with Admiral Clancy last week established that enough.

I can only hope that the next 7 episodes give us more insight.

Very broken..., another one with the death of a close friend to have to live with the rest of his life.

C'mon you've been here since 2001..........this is what Trek "fans" do..........But to be honest it seems like ALL fandoms now. We used to have the market cornered!

Yeah, I suppose.... but that's a heck of a way to watch something one is supposedly a fan of.

Shiver me timbers! And here I thought the scruffy beard and indifference to metal in the shoulder was about Pirate, bad ass toughness. It was actually about how vulnerable, sensitive and damaged he is!

... or perhaps, They geared each episode around it eventually being shown on broadcast TV.

I thought Rios having an emergency hologram that looks exactly like him and gives him backtalk that he doesn't like was a far more interesting and effective bit of characterization than the other stuff they came up with. "Grits his teeth, pours whiskey over a wound, refuses to have it sewn up" by comparison is pretty heavy-handed and cliche.

- I like Raffi, a lot.
- seeing Hugh was great but too much exposition right there at first kinda took away from it
- dig the transporter pad on the new ship
- an EMH!
- a Trek universe where people have personal problems & aren't perfect
- I want to know more about how Hugh got from where he was in 'Decent' to now
- nice assassin home invasion scene
- Allison Pill is awesome
- I teared up & flood of emotions when he said Engage and the TNG theme music

I like this crew. Gave it an 8. Can't wait till next week.
