I'm not crying, your crying.

Is everyone on this forum a clone of Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons? Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Use it sparingly perhaps, you guys.

Yes. Literally everyone in this forum is an idiot besides you. Because anyone who disagrees with you is somehow Comic Book Guy.

Or something

I dislike the NY Yankees. I figured it would be better to post that here than in the NY Yankees fan forum.

The old putting words in someone else's mouth trick. Whatever makes you happy.

I don't like the Yankees either. Actually, I don't think I like any New York teams.

I don't know why it took this thread for me to figure it out...

Then what did you mean by "everyone on this forum is a clone of the Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons?"

Look, I'm not trying to be a dink. I was just trying to get you to see the point of view being expressed by others here. I may have been more than a little smarmy about it.

Let's just call it a day. Not worth getting worked up over.

Apart from using some Bermen era cast, Picard is playing very little on nostalgia. If anything season 2 Discovery plays far more on nostalgia.
Hahhahaha! You're serious?

- Picard OPENS with a beauty shot of the 1701-D (not the Star Gazer, not the 1701-E which aside from that comic was his last on screen command)..WHY? Because it's what will get the TNG fans who watched that ship for 179 episodes to go - COOOL!

- Then we have a scene in Ten Forward with Picard and Data Playing cards.

- Then in the FNN interview piece there are shots of Worf and other things liftted directly from TNG episodes.
^^^
In the first 5 minutes they gave you more nostalgia then STD managed in the entirety of it's Season 1. Hell, up untiil tjhe 1701 showed up in the LAST episode we TOS fans got a few mentions of Spock and the 1701. Sarek and Amanda aren't really all that 'nostalgic' for TOS fans as they appeared in ONE episode.

In STO Ep, 2:

- They name drop Worf and Geordi

- You get a nice hologram of a 99.99% unmodified Galaxy Class.

So yeah, please tell me how STP isn't pulling on fans nostalgia strings. Hell Will Wheaton is sooo geeking out over all of the nostalgia bits, he looks like he's about to stroke out in glee in the aftershow segments.

I didn't say everyone is. I asked if everyone is. The level of sarcasm dripping from practically every discussion is jarring. It reminds me of a stereotypically nerdy snark monster like Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons. I mean, he's funny but in small doses.

Those are easter eggs within the show and have very little if any significance to the actual storyline.

Is the main character also an Easter egg?

Let's be absolutely clear on something here:

The main character is frigging Jean-Luc Picard.

Saying the show is not built on nostalgia is like saying the sun isn't hot. The entire draw of the show....the entire reason it even exists is because the main character / star is a massive nostalgia draw.

So people can clamor on in the pointless, inane and obligatory Discovery vs Picard debates until you're all blue in the face...but this is one argument that is so incredibly out-of-whack....I don't even know what to say.

Of course PIC relies on nostalgia. Moreso than any other iteration of Trek has yet.

It's not even an argument. Nostalgia is foundational to the entire concept.

Still nostalgia tugging. It's that nice reassurance to people who don't want Trek to change "Don't worry. This Trek is safe."

Then it's a good thing I was clear on what I meant by playing on nostalgia.

Appreciate the post, but I didn't call it nostalgic. I said it played on nostalgia. What I meant by that is that Discovery was revisiting known established events in Trek history and filling in gaps/adding more lore to those events.

The same can be said of the majority of STD. But hell we got one 'sceen accurate' flashback in S2 "If Memory Serves".
The rest of it:

STD 1701 Uniforns: Understand I like what they did, but do they look olike or evoke 'nostalgia'? No. Why? They don't LOOK like the 1701 uniforms in TOS.

The Disco-Prise: Again, I like teh design, but does it evoke nostalgia for me? No. Why? It really looks quite different in a major way the the TOS 1701 I know and still like to this day.

In fact if you feel everything I brought up is an 'Easter Egg' - please tell me what STD did that was sooo nostalgic for TOS fans like myself who managed to catch a season or more of that series on NBC.

Bottom line: Quit parroting the idiot reviewers on YT who don't really know TOS or really paid attention to watching whatever episode snippets they caught in syndication or from DVDs over the years.
