I'll refer to Data's neurons as pieces of fairy cake.

Data forgot what Lal looked like and just painted her from memory. Hence, the image of Dahj!

So what we are saying is...that DSC should have offed Burnham at the end of episode one? I can get behind that....

    (I am joking.)
    (Maybe.)

Index is basically a holographic Siri. Or Alexa. More Alexa because it mapped the interior of Picard's home. And Index doesn't mind being used as a walking reference guide.

Picard's fondness for AI lifeforms like Data doesn't seem to spill over into Archive assistants...I didn't hear any words of thanks for its help...

I had the feeling from the second trailer...she looks like human Data, very strongly. With a dash of Lal.

the DS9 version was almost as stupid. S31 is a nice idea on paper, but never really worked

The Federation after the Dominion War could be a very paranoid place. Remember, just a decade or two before all this happens the entire quadrant was plunged into a horrifically bloody war involving shapeshifters who could infiltrate any Federation world and wreak untold havoc from within. Their armies were fanatical, ferocious soldiers addicted to a drug who would let themselves become cannon fodder and gladly to pursue the goals of masters that they saw as deities. The war killed well over a billion people, at least 800 million just on Cardassia. Earth itself was attacked in the closing weeks of the war and San Francisco and Starfleet Headquarters were damaged. The Federation was damaged, exhausted and wondering what the next thing to come around the corner might be.

The Synths triggered the worst instincts of a Federation still recovering from the worst conflict in the recorded history of the quadrant and willing to do whatever it took to feel safe and secure.

To be fair, that's what they did to 'Control' in Disco Season 2, as it was clear what they were fighting was akin to a Windows 10 program that had been downloaded to a Kaypro 2.

To be fair, he wasn’t human. Though maybe he gets an artificial one and ends up a starship captain.

The two really aren't comparable at all. It's like saying Data is Spock done right.

I liked the accents on the Romulans. Though I was getting strong ‘oh, Picards married/shacked up with this one’ vibes. I mean...she knew he was talking in his sleep, and fixed his shirt collar.

Is it me, or did the necklace bring to mind the Thalaron weapon?
What if Data himself is in someway working behind the scenes with Maddox? The download from B4 in a holomatrix?
(Also, Bashir got positronic nets mostly working in a fully human body way back with zombie Bareil.)

Having a pair of Romulans stand in for Picard fandom isn't what I would call effective either. Yes, I know what they are and where they come from, but they were used mostly in this episode to prop him up.

most of my friends know I'm talking in my sleep sometimes (mostly because my wife tells them occasionally) and I tend to fix ties for them if necessary. doesn't mean I sleep with all of them
