I’m sure Discovery’s uniform will change this season. I can’t see Burnham spending over a year (or whatever) waiting for Discovery to come through the wormhole wearing only the uniform she had on under her Red Angel suit.
I personally like them. They aren’t that dissimilar to ENT uniform.
I’d like to see Picard in a yellow jumper like Pikes “new” uniform

The 'casual viewer' will see Star Trek characters wearing recognisable Star Trek costumes on a Star Trek show. So job done.

I don't disagree -- which is why the last paragraph of my post says pretty much exactly that!

I feel like I'm watching the Federation marching band when I watch Discovery.

From the way they look in the promos - and with how well they're fitted (read: not very well at all) - I feel like I'm watching a Star Trek fan film. (YMMV).

The side panels recall the Discovery uniforms. I'm impressed they resisted putting a bunch of tiny Starfleet deltas there.

We saw worse in TNG. Some Admiral's uniforms in the late '80s were horrendous.
