Joker Origin Story Announced

IMHO, you have. The MCU is awesome.
I was with it until Winter Soldier and then I couldn't keep up. Thanos pisses me right off, I hate the Infinity Gauntlet and "Civil War" irritated me.

Don't give me "MCU is awesome!" Tell me what films are actually enjoyable, because thus far it is 50/50 for me, if I'm being generous. As I stated earlier, the MCU started out OK and became this overwrought inaccessible monstrosity that no longer is entertaining but feels like homework. It's why I gave up on comic books themselves in the first place.

I fell asleep during Endgame.
Further than I made it.

Even my wife, who is a huge fan has seemingly fallen off the MCU wagon. The last one we saw was Endgame. We skipped the Ant Man movies.

There are plenty of valid MCU criticisms, but pretentious? If there’s any superhero franchise that thinks it’s making deep statements about the human condition, it’s Batman. MCU doesn’t pretend not to be morally simplistic the way DK and Joker do.

I was actually saying that the MCU WASN'T Pretentious, unlike current stuff like Westworld. Sorry.

Instead it has a formula that it follows to a T every single time. And it does oh sooo well! Please give me more!!!

But lets not pretend this isn't the case. Marvel had the chance to do something different with Black Widow. Trailers suggest its still exactly the same though.

Just like James Bond, and Star Wars, and Star Trek, and Dr Who...every long runner really.

Like what, exactly? Seems more like a Superspy film.

The only MCU movie since Endgame was Spider-Man: Far From Home, so you haven't skipped that many.
I'll admit a few of the origin story movies have hit similar story beats, but once we get to the sequels I don't really see where they're that similar. Ragnarok is definitely not the same movie as Civil War, and Black Panther is definitely not the same movie as Far From Home, and Ant Man and the Wasp is definitely not the same movies or Endgame.

Personally I love them all except for TIM and AMATW, which I merely like.

This is a valid criticism, I admit. Infinity War and Endgame aren’t stand alone films. They assume a lot of familiarity with and affection for what came before. I’m the kind of fan who has watched them all repeatedly, so it’s not a problem for me.

And guess what I start skipping...James Bond, the MCU films, possibly Picard. Formulas become tired over time, and the MCU's longevity doesn't automatically mean investment.

A superspy does spying. Fights only when one must. This is her falling off a bridge shooting a machine gun, and exotic tech and possibly powers are involved.

I've enjoyed about half - maybe less - of the MCU movies I've seen. I don't go out of my way to see them any more unless I have a really specific expectation based on experience. I might pay to see Thor 4 and Black Panther 2, for example (hated the first two Thor movies, saw the third on TV and loved it). Otherwise I catch them on streaming TV or not at all.

Infinity War was utter tripe so I skipped Endgame.

TMP, TWOK, TSFS and TVH all followed the same formula? Really?

Similar enough to how the MCU's "formula" works.

Sounds like Bond to me.

It was better than Westworld season 2.

The bad Pierce Brosnan bonds. But they realized people don't want that, and got the less ridiculous Craig.

Connery, Moore, Dalton...they all had elements of that stuff. Even the Craig films went over the top with their take on Blofeld.

I said less over the top. Not fully grounded. Action is fine. But BW looks like a full on superhero cgi action fest.

With all that CG, they couldn’t get the de-aging right? She looks more like the Natasha of Endgame than the Natasha of IM2.

WW went down the tubes after Season 1, it should've been a 1 Season show and just ended with the Robot Rebellion beginning. But as usual the Nolans' tendency to write with their head up their asses led to S2 and the nonsense IT ended with.

But then again, even the plot they came up for S1 was pretty dull once you think about it chronologically. That was the whole point of the non-linear plots...to keep folks from realizing how plodding and predictable the whole thing was.

Even though it was pretty easy to figure out the whole flashback was the origin for William, although his past characterization was less "Good guy goes bad" and more "Clearly unbalanced guy just loses his mask of sanity" due to a poorly done character.

And as usual, they're incapable of writing nuanced characters. Just the usual caricatures and 1-Note fanatics.

You're basing that on one fight scene.
