    Every single thread seemingly has a spoiler tag, it's a freaking minefield trying to avoid them. I know, if I want to avoid all spoilers completely I should probably just shut down the internet for next 10 days, but I can't help it. I have to discuss the show, but don't want to get spoiled.
    Please NO spoilers in this thread, including hidden spoiler tags (oh how easy they are to click..)
    So here goes...
    [IMG]
    8.6 on IMDb, nothing on RT yet, nothing on metacritic.
    Seems like anything less than 9.9 is a disappointment, but even Breaking Bad got only 9.5 on IMDb.
    So this is a good score, right? And it only is a score for first episode or max for first three episodes? I'm not about to go look for reviews, but this is overall good news, right?

    I wouldn't put much focus on the score. Given the current social media "rage" against Sir Patrick Stewart saying the show will tackle some real world politics, I fully expect the usual suspects to try and sink Picard's scores on various websites.

    I was wondering about these IMDB scores. You can't view the reviews yet. Does IMDB have some sort of internal embargo system where users can post reviews, but the reviews can't be seen till the air date?

    Yeah looking at the #startrekpicard hashtag on Twitter is a minefield of "get your politics out of my star trek!!1" kinda like "get your government out of my medicare!!1"

    Right wing web sites have picked up the story and I saw at least one former Trump advisor tweeted it and called Patrick an idiot. They are going to skew the imdb/rottentomatoes ratings down for sure.

    Yup, they've been at it for a day or so now. It's not the first time I'm witnessing this tho, they've done it before whenever Sir Patrick says something political (for some reason it always seems to be new to them that he's not on their side???), it always stops after a day or two when the next right-wing pundit posts the next outrage. And I doubt that they're all "not going to watch this". They always say that, and then I see the same people tweeting about the show once it airs (granted, they're hating on it, but they ARE watching it). Same thing happened with Discovery.

    I do agree tho, they will probably cause bad ratings on a few websites. If they haven't forgotten about this by the day after tomorrow, that is. They're in a constant stage of outrage at celebrities who disagree with their political views, and they'll need a new "fix" soon.

    8.6 is pretty damn good.

    For reference:

    "Encounter at Farpoint" --> 7.0 (link)
    "Emissary" --> 7.6 (link)
    "Caretaker" --> 7.5 (link)
    "Broken Bow" --> 7.8 (link)
    "The Vulcan Hello" --> 7.1 (link)

    Before someone says anything, I left out "The Man Trap" only because it wasn't intended to be the premiere episode when it was produced. NBC just happened to decide to air it first.

    So there you go.

    IDK - since it was only a real small group of mostly hand-picked attendees for the Cinerama Dome premiere, I would have expected higher. Unless it's the usual folks who haven't seen anything but promos voting on the site early.

    Based on what I've seen so far, critics and viewers scores are going to be largely useless. Picard will be a show one has to experience for themselves.

    No score for "The Cage" or "Where No Man..."?

    i was doing that last night hoping for reactions after the screening and i was really surprised by just how many tweets like that there were. i'm not naive about the state of our politics, but i thought people who care enough about star trek to tweet about it would either be used to this by now (it's not like discovery wasn't "woke"), or would agree with stewart's sentiments.

    Yeah, looks like anyone can post on IMDB, it's weird though why are there only 2 public reviews and 50 hidden ones.

    Lmao one of the reviews:

    Left wing communist tries rebooting career
    Nothing much else to say. Patrick Stewart hates democracy. Watch, if you hate your country..

    three reviews, all rubbish. one reviewer gives it a 10 and admits they've never seen it, another is this little gem above, the other is a more thinly veiled version of the same, but with just enough information gleaned from trailers to sound somewhat legit.

    Problem is, TNG actually DID play to a lot of Conservative stereotypical thinking back in the day, and that's how it attracted some fans with a very Conservative political bent:

    - The Starship Captain is an old white man who preaches the 'right way' is always 'the Federation (IE Establishment) way'.

    - He's backed up by a second white man, who never (well you could count on one hand) really disagrees or questions any of his decisions (even when he himself states that's what his position will sometimes entail).

    - One African American actor is playing the "Attack Dog" (non-human) character; who is kept in check by the old white man in Command.

    - The Second African American actor is the one running (read: shoveling coal) into the engines.

    - A Third female African American actor is ultimately just a Waitress/Bartender serving everyone else on the ship.

    - There's a female Counselor who pretty much just restates the obvious things all the males have already picked up on; and is often just ignored or actively sidelined.

    - There's a female widowed doctor (with her kid) who practically lusts after Picard (even though he lead the mission her late husband died on). WRT the Kid, even though he's more intelligent than most of the adults and brings up points they should have already realized, he's either ignored, or told to shut up (IE Kids should be seen and not heard and just do what the parents/adults say...)

    Yep - TNG was very 'Liberal' for the 1980ies/early 1990ies.....oh, wait... ;)

    I just want to hear some opinion from people who were actually there—all I’m seeing are unverified “spoilers” (which I’m trying to stay strong and avoid) and right wing cry babying...

    What constitutes a "non-spoiler" information, out of curiosity? Apparently there is another returning character (based on the title of a thread here) -- don't know who, but excited to find out on the 23rd! I'm trying to stay clear of spoilers, but there are some fun things I'd like to know, such as:

    1. So, do we get to see 24th century starships? (yes or no, doesn't have to be descriptive)
    2. Are the contents of the Countdown comics confirmed to be canon or non-canon? (yes or no)

    ^those are exactly the kinds of things I’m looking for too. Basically I don’t want any plot details but I’d like to know about canon relevance and little bits like starship style. Also would love to see/hear the title sequence.

    Btw, the returning character thread is an unverified claim and has been refuted by people who were at the premiere. Which is an example of why I’m getting bummed out about the ‘info’ and talk around the Trek web!

    They're miffed that the show is not going to be TNG S8.
