Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Does anyone know why the Reman Scorpion-class was moved back to the list of unconfirmed ships on Memory Alpha? I thought it had been confirmed as a bonus issue in one of the interviews.

 

After waiting in vain for the Groumall to hit shelves and having higher numbered ships arrive instead, I just had my sister get it for me for Xmas. It finally arrived yesterday (you don't wait until the 18th to order something if you want it to arrive on time, sis) and I'm really happy with it. Like all the long, thin ships, the box dimension make this a small scale ship. The seam, unfortunately, makes it not look too attractive from straight on, but from an angle, it's pretty neat.

 

Resistance was futile, I had to buy another Borg ship... and a green light bulb!

It irks me that there's still no Borg Cube though. What are the top 5 most important alien starships from ST? I'd say it's the Klingon Bird-of-Prey, the Klingon Battlecruiser, the Romulan D'deridex Warbird, maybe the Cardassian Galor class, and... the Borg Cube. EM seem to agree on the first four, they were released as issues 3, 5, 7, and 14. Yet there's no regular Borg Cube in sight after one-hundred and seventy-five issues! Even if the surface structure has to be simplified a bit, the Tactical Cube, Sphere, Diamond, and Probe prove that it's possible to make pretty good Borg ships at this scale. There are three different versions of the Cube anyway - why not at least make one of them in the standard line, for example the VOY version which exists as a usable CGI model? And then they could take all the time they need to develop one of the other versions as a larger, more intricate model if they still want to go that route.

 

There was the large-size illuminated cube that was offered as a freebie to initial subscribers at the beginning of the line. Before that, there was the slightly smaller, super-rare (and arguably more accurate) Deagostini cube that was available only in Japan. You can find both on eBay, but at stupid-high prices.

 

Just a day after my Groumall finally arrived, I went out and bought another ship. You see, I'd been holding on to a $25 prepaid credit card that I got from work that I wanted to spend on the Groumall when it finally arrived at my local dealer. Since that seemed unlikely to happen (and I no longer need it to anyway), I decided to see what else he's got. (Plus he was having a sale). I was originally going to go with the boxy holo ship from "Insurrection", but instead I went with one that's probably been sitting on his shelves for a couple of years: The 22nd Century Romulan Bird of Prey from "Minefield".

I've always had a prickly opinion of that ship. Objectively, it's a neat looking design and unmistakably Romulan, but my beef was always that it look about a hundred years MORE advanced than the ship from "Balance of Terror", rather than in the opposite direction. Compare this with the 22nd Century Klingon Bird of Prey, which actually does look like a more primitive ancestor of the 23rd/24th Century ship.

But I decided to let it slide and add it to my collection and I'm quite happy with it. Speaking of the collection, I've entirely filled up the tall shelf and the top of the long shelf is only about two ships away from being full (and I've got two on the way). I'm soon going to have to make some tough choices about replacing entire shelves or buying myself some time by putting away the handful of non-Eaglemoss ships I still have out (5 from Furuta and 9 from Johnny Lightning).

 

Indeed. It's a bit sad for me as a trekkie that the ship I'd most want to see in the line isn't even something from the past decade of official trek but instead a parody from even further back.

 

Why am I imagining placing an M-80 inside each of those and lighting the fuse?

 

Comic book store informed me that I’m FINALLY getting the Discoprise next week, as well as the (late) Sarajevo, and the Son’a ship, Lakul, and the Orion Interceptor, leaving only the Melbourne overdue.

btw the magazine discusses the fact that the designer, ryan dening, used the USS vengeance as a jumping off point for the stealth ship. just to clear up that little debate about the similarities or dissimilarities between the two ships.

i did the same thing with my DS9 special and it really brought out the detail.

 

Stealth ship and Beacon of Kahless arrived today. I do like the design of the Stealth ship but like most things in Discovery, it would have worked better in the 24th century. I could see Sloane commanding a ship like that in DS9.

 

Such a missed opportunity not placing Discovery in the early-24th century.

 

Yep. Post-TUC but pre-Enterprise-C loss in 2344 would have been a far better time frame for this show. Oh well.
