You say that but Kylo was a odd person saying that the light was pulling him to be good. That’s not how the force worked back in Anakin’s day. The dark side was supposed to be the alluring one.

 

Nah, because that'd just compound the problem of pulling in characters who were never in this trilogy in the first place, like Palpatine.

Jimmie Walker. J.J. was his character. And on that show his idiocy and stereotypical behavior was at least counterbalanced somewhat by the other characters...at least for a while.

Which would have been much better, yes.

A clone wouldn't reflect the physical damage received in his donor's fight with Mace Windu.

Although a clone might be surgically altered to keep up the appearance of royalty.

Unless the Emperor has always looked liked that, and he was able to stop pretending he wasn't deformed, after he could blame Mace for his pug ugliness.

So Rey is so good at what she does, but you don't think she seems even BETTER because everyone else around her, like Finn are kind of bufoonish? you don't think there is a relationship to how other male characters are treated in films with strong female ones?
See, Favreau gets it. Cara Dune has a backstory, not to mention a physique, that makes her a believable kick ass female characters.. but the males around her don't need to be neutered buffoons for this to be the case

Not true at all. Vader was featured front and center as a catalyst in this trilogy. TFA showed that Kylo's journey was dependent on Vader's guidance. It's not like the first two movies ignored it, and suddenly they say "Hey, look! Vader's helmet!". We knew it was a source of inspiration from the get-go. After all, he's the one who has turned the Skywalker family to the Dark Side!

 

You ever have one of those moments where you're thinking about a film or a show and you realize something obvious that you were just too dense to catch any earlier?

There are two Sith Wayfinders (makes sense as there are two Sith). Kylo Ren finds Vader's on Mustafar. Where the Clone Wars ended.

Rey finds the Emperor's on a moon of Endor. Where the Galactic Civil War ended. Which they literally call out in the movie. "Where the last war ended?"

The way to the final battle on Exegol is literally paved through Mustafar and Endor. You can't get to the ending of Ep 9 without Ep 3 or Ep 6.

I somewhat agree that Rey is portrayed as more capable than those around her, but I don't think it's about her being a woman and them being men. It's just a choice made to frame her more as the main character and driving force, especially in TFA. You might not like it, but it doesn't have to be a gender thing. Even if it is, I'm not sure I mind.

 

She's a scavenger who's lived her entire adolescence and adult life up until TFA cleaning and salvaging scrap metal and ship components to eke out a bare existence. She lived inside a downed Imperial AT-AT and had no friends that we know of prior to meeting BB-8. She has talents one is likely to acquire by struggling to have even the bare minimum in life and would thus know more than New Republic and First Order citizens born into relative luxury on Core Worlds or planets with functioning economies and access to trade routes.

Finn is good at being a trained soldier. Poe is a superb pilot. Rey is good at scavenging and understanding machines and spacecraft. Her excellence in those areas combined with her high Force sensitivity and growing powers don't make Finn and Poe absolutely useless any more than Luke's great powers and capabilities in the Original Trilogy made Han and Chewbacca useless in the grander scheme of the wider narrative. Everybody has a role to play in the Star Wars films and not everybody can be the Force-sensitive hero who learns how to use a lightsaber.

Anyone who thinks it's because she's a girl and Kathleen Kennedy is deliberately making everybody else useless or at best third wheels just to pursue an SJW Agenda is either not paying attention or came into the films with an agenda to view the new films through a reductionist, politically-conservative light.

 

Look at Indiana Jones. In Temple of Doom, Willie Scott is just comically useless. She perfectly fulfils the damsel in distress thing. She’s also incredibly vain and - for lack of a better word - 'bitchy'. In contrast, Indy is the tough, no nonsense man who saves the day.

Clearly this is a movie where a woman has been made less capable than an ultra capable man. Okay, so does that mean it's part of some kind of misogynistic agenda? No. In fact, the same sort of thing happens in Last Crusade, where Henry Jones and especially Marcus Brody are mostly useless and Indy is left to look all heroic saving them. Temple of Doom isn't saying men are better than women - it's simply saying that Indy is our hero. Somehow I doubt @Flying Spaghetti Monster is as concerned about gender roles in that movie as in the Star Wars sequels.

So how is it any different when the genders are reversed? Why do you get your undies in such a bunch when a movie portrays a woman as more capable than a bunch of men? Not a particularly subtle piece of storytelling, but a main character that’s stronger than the rest is just something that happens in movies sometimes, and Rey is the main character. Let’s not forget that usually it’s a man who fills that role.

 

I'm reminded of a line from a Gorillaz song...... Clint Eastwood I think.
It goes:
"Just remember that it's all in your head"

 

His mask is a symbol for Kylo. Anakin does not appear in any of these films. That’s the point.
