I'm betting the Doc found a way to replicate a super-sized mobile emitter so he can command an entire holo-ship that can take whatever form he's feeling that day. Command an Enterprise? Sure. Command a giant squid? Sure. At the touch of a button. VOY never really explored all the possible variations, beyond whether he'd have hair or not. The hologram revolution is here, and he's at the helm.

They could cancel it anytime,destroy everthing filmed and return all that tax money and payoff any contract owing people money because this makes sense do them feeling angry over having to settle for a Picard show when they clearly would rather do a Alec Peters Axanar show if only CBS hadn't been bullied by Kurtzman to not give the true fans what they REALLY wanted is more Axnar. But Kurtzman said no way. If you do this me and Abrams gets to keep our 75% of Trek forever and you CBS only gets the other 25%. Jason

I want to see the state of the universe post-Dominion War and post-Hobus in Picard, but lets focus on making a damn good story that is focused and has a message. The last thing I want is another confusing, boring mess like Discovery.

Either way, it's almost hilarious the show is being renewed despite the lack of ratings... any ratings. The predictions must be high for this one.

Ms. Crosby was often given pretty awful material as Sela in TNG. I've not seen STO but Sela in TNG quickly became a caricature as partial homage/"easter egg" garbage in "Redemption" and "Unification" to Kirk's era's cartoon cardboard adversaries... the idea behind her creation is still pretty darn great, regardless of how the character was written beyond that.

Um yeah, right. Compared to TOS' Kor, Khan, and Kang played by John Colicos, Ricardo Montalban, and Michael Ansara respectively; BOTH Denise Crosby and Sela come up way short regardless of the material written. Sela was the cartoon caricature.

My question is, there are plenty of slots where this could go as a regular rotation CBS show could fit. They are definitely plugging it enough. Why not just put it on regular TV?

I know they want to push their app and I don't mind paying 7 dollars a month, but this show could compete for viewership against almost anything that ABC, NBC and Fox bring as far as Dramas go (aside from maybe a couple, like SVU).

If you're spending 150 million a season in production, try to get it to as many fans as you can.

Because a streaming service is nowhere near the competitive market network TV is. And with this show's budget, on a network anything less than red hot smoking success will be considered a failure. Besides, TNG was never a network show anyway, it aired first run syndication. So to put its revival on a network would be an odd choice indeed.

Makes sense, I guess I didn't. I guess I am just too young to remember TNG's first run very well. I was 4 when the show started. I always caught it when they played it twice a night as syndicated reruns.

It's 6 dollars (or 10 without commercials). They're airing it on British TV soon, as far as I've heard, so maybe it'll be released on more TV channels later (similar to the DVD release when the following season is done).

Because the object is to make money; and in their estimation, in the long run they will make more money via CBSAA subscriptions than they would from the current standard TV advertising paradigm.

I don't think the show is airing on mainstream British TV. Internationally it will stream on Amazon Prime, which is where I (in the UK) will be watching it.

Amazon Prime is mainstream for the under 35s. TV will not exist by 2040 (as predicted by TNG in 1988)

My kids are the same age I was when TNG started airing, and they know the channels are Netflix, Amazon, and HDMI2.

When TNG was airing, Eastenders and Corrie got 15m regular viewers. Christmas shows were 25-30m. The most watched shows get in the region of 5m now, and GavinStacey Xmas got 10m which was shockingly high.

Things that do still get viewers are family shows with no concentration - things like xfactor and strictly. The family sit together, most also on a second screen, and it counts as a viewer. Even popular dramas which get millions find most of the viewers on catchup.

76% of young people in the UK watch subscription streaming services, and that’s in a country with watchable TV (without adverts jarring the narrative every few minutes)

Amazon Prime is mainstream. BBC2 or Channel 4 isn’t.

By 'mainstream', I meant the most basic TV package that most people have, without having to pay for an extra streaming service, which is what Amazon Prime is. You have to pay extra for it, just as you do CBS All Access. I was responding to a comment about whether the show would be aired on a regular channel in the US or remain behind the All Access paywall; the person I responded to seemed to think it would be airing on a regular channel in the UK. It isn't. It is airing on a premium streaming service that not everyone is willing to pay extra for, just the same as in the US. Therefore that can't be taken as any kind of sign as to whether or not it will eventually move to a regular channel with a wider audience in the US, which was the implication.

US tv - especially long form sci-fi, relies on legacy advertising, that’s a diminishing market.

I’d be concerned by tv show aimed at legacy tv. The future is not syndication.
