Christmas Thread

Put my tree up yesterday. My back is still sore.

Good looking tree. You have an Star Trek ornaments on it? I don't see any. Last year my girlfriend and I didn't bother with a big tree. We got a small one for our living room table. I decorated it with my Star Trek ornaments and some garland because she didn't want to climb into the attic to get her regular stuff, and I can't climb up there at all. We're planing to do the same thing this year.

I used to have a Star Trek wreath that I made but after all the years of it being outside, it got rather shabby. I still have it, though. I have a box full of Hallmark Trek ornaments (in their boxes) but don't put them on my tree anymore. Maybe one day, I will take them out and use them to make a new Trek wreath. But the Nerd in my head tells me to leave them in their boxes.

Nice. No tree this year. We will be headed to the Shenandoah and there’s no way we’d leave two cats at home with a tree, especially with one under a year old.

anyway -- I haven't a clue how to know when it is "hotlinked" and when it is not? I will look into the meaning of hotlink and such and maybe.. find a way around. yep so this is a hotlink definition

hot·link
/ˈhätliNGk/
Learn to pronounce
COMPUTING
verb
gerund or present participle: hotlinking
connect (two documents) by means of a hotlink.

IDK they use the word in the definition right .. that is just not defining this. :(

Hi think,

For our purposes, hotlinked just means that you are embedding an image in your post that comes from a site that you don't own, and is not a specific image hosting service.

In your image above, it is hosted on smellifish.com... not an image hosting service (and I'm assuming you don't own it). Because of this, every time someone loads this post on TrekBBS, it is stealing bandwidth from smellifish.com, because their servers are the ones serving it up for viewing. Because of this, I will be converting the image to a link.

(The image is hilarious, BTW, so you also get a 'like'. I have to admit, I'm definitely a "left" person at the start of the month, but I usually manage to move to the "right" by around the 20th or so! :) )

The simple way around this is, when you find an image you like, right-click, and select "save as", and save it to your own computer. Then, upload it to an image hosting service, such as Imgur or PostImage, and then post it to TrekBBS from there. Alternatively, since you are a premium member, after you have saved the image to your computer, you can upload it directly to TrekBBS (the "Upload a File" button beside "Post Reply"), then reference that version in your post.

I hope this helps! (But yes, putting the word you're trying to define into the definition isn't very helpful! )

yes plain and simple I get it :) and thanks for the work around == I might of considered all the sites the link comes from as hotlinking then the large files I can't upload as not doable -- ;) most appreciative..

my mom turned 80 in November and decided that she's now old enough for cookie retirement. So I have to bake all the cookies (15 sorts) for the whole family in teh evenings after a full time job and doing my own household. Haven't had a spare second for weeks and not even opened my advent calendar, let alone put up any decorations.
And I only have a present for my sister but none for my parents and brother yet. I need a 50 hour day (and a 20 hour night to get a bit sleep)!

Does anyone have a good idea for presents that don't take up a lot of space but are fun nevertheless? I was thinking of 12 father-daughter weekend trips: quality time and no dusting or tidying away required :D But what to give to mom and brother?
