Spoilers The Mandalorian | Disney+ | Streaming Nov. 12

Very timely considering episode four.

That whole gunslinger comes to town and helps the locals fight the bandits thing.

Yup---did not move the BY story much but a nice stand alone. Really hope we see Cara Dune again!

We actually did get to see Mando take his helmet off this week, but we just didn't see his face.
After the big arc with the first three, it was kind of nice to get a more self contained story this week. And it was even up to 41 minutes, bringing it more in line regular one hour dramas.
I'm a little surprised Cara Dune just took by herself off at the end, Gina Carano was a big part of the marketing, so I assumed she was going to be sticking around for the rest of the season, or at least a couple more episodes.

Jon Favreau shared a video he took of Baby Yoda he took while they were filming one of the episodes.

I liked the latest episode. It played with all the fun Western "town under siege" tropes. And I particularly liked how dangerous they made the AT-ST. Against infantry it should feel like a killing machine.

Kind of a necessary episode as well. Nowhere is safe. We aren't going to be able to hide the Child anywhere. How long before the Mandalorian decides to take the fight to those looking for him?

Though what confused me, was he did it in front of an open window. Someone could have easily seen him.
He was in shadow for the most part and the top half of the window had some sort of blind obscuring him, you just can't see it in that particular shot since it's above frame along with his head.
Remember the camera wasn't at his eyeline looking out at the kids, but down below his shoulder level. So the kids outside didn't actually have a direct line of sight.

This wasn’t bad. I especially liked the AT-ST night shots.

The villagers he decided to help wouldn’t be out of place in the first few seasons of Stargate SG-1. Not sure that’s a good thing.

I haven’t decided yet if this show is actually good or if the cuteness of baby Yoda is making it seem better than it actually is.

As this series develops, I'm gaining increased respect for how well Pascal can convey emotion through physical gestures and voice inflection. I was initially dubious of how connected I or other audience members could be to a character whose face we never see, but Pascal’s put those doubts to rest for me. His, “You want some soup?” line to Cara Dune had me laughing out loud, regardless of whether I could see his facial expression or not.

This Mandalorian character as he’s been portrayed is far more interesting than a resurrected Boba Fett would have been. Yes, Fett was menacing and lethal, but he’s a two-dimensional character. Mando is a complex, fallible man with a history who adheres to a code of conduct in a region where most do not. He’s fair, just, compassionate at times, and often downright polite!

This series isn’t at all what I’d expected. It’s so much better.

It was a pretty good episode. I liked the slightly slower pace and I get the idea that perhaps this could be where Mando returns to at the end of the season to escape the world if he wants to. My one question is I get that the red light from the AT-ST's window was supposed to be menacing, but from a practical standpoint, how well can you honestly see the instrumentation with a really bright red light as your primary light source? I honestly don't know. That's why I'm asking.

Well, the raiders weren't human. Maybe Klatoonians see better in red light for all we know.

Teddy Bears however.................

Yes, that was rather my point.

Actually, red lighting allows you to maintain your night vision, which is why it's frequently used in photography dark rooms, military bunkers, submarines, and anywhere you might find yourself working in the dark. If you're driving the AT-ST while relying on your eyes to see outside through a window and you don't have night-vision optics, it makes complete sense to have red light inside the walker.

Very enjoyable episode. I already can't wait until next week!

Best scene of the week: Baby Yoda standing there slurping his soup while watching Mando and Cara.

How long before the Mandalorian decides to take the fight to those looking for him?
Yeah, now that it's become clear to him that nowhere is safe, it's pretty much his only option.

Also, lothcat!

Learn something new every day! Thanks!

It's for a different reason with dark rooms. Red is a safelight for processing black and white photography, used so that you can see what you are doing but it does not affect the paper.

Yep - they probably got $50 and a box lunch (That was the going rate for being an unnamed extra in my College days). ;)

I think I got $40 for my tiny handful of film "appearances." But those were just crowd scenes and it was more than 20 years ago.

So, Cara Dune thought the New Republic had put a bounty on her for deserting? That doesn't seem the style of a newly formed 'democratic' government, unless the NR was taking some pages from the old Imperial playbook.

I think that's just speculation. She never said the Republic was after her. It's not a bad assumption based on the info about her we did get, but I also agree that it doesn't sound like something the Republic would bother with.
