STAR TREK 4 BACK ON! Noah Hawley to write and direct

Maybe he just wanted to have fun, a bit of a break from the MCU.

I have a feeling that if Paramount had decided to pay him according to his original contract, he would have been there regardless of the quality of script. Lots of people find reasons for not wanting to do something, after the offer has already been pulled.

Probably. Money talks, etc. etc.

But, there is something to be said for taking a break from the big universe ending epics of MCU and just having fun with a project like MIB.

keep trying to imagine the poster for the Hemsworth ST4:
long hair/bearded Hemsworth all prominent in ripped Starfleet uniform (to show off muscular arms) holding a phaser rifle like a hammer, with Pine, Quinto and Saldana below holding phasers in charlies angel action poses, and in middle the EntA and Kelvin under attack from the Narada and some BOPs. tagline: 'the battle to avenge the past has begun'

Good call by Hemsworth.
Oh... you read the script, too?

(Rhetorical question, because — of course — you haven't. You're just doing that same bit where you drop into a thread to — once again — remind everyone reading that there are many aspects of the Kelvinverse movies with which you were unhappy or disappointed, and then go on to state that — because of your disillusionment with them, and regardless of whether anyone else may hold a differing opinion — no one should ever be permitted to make any more movies in that setting.

Yeah. That bit. The one you've worn out through overuse. You probably ought to give a thought to retiring it soon. It's OK to not like things, but...

Just sayin'.)

You're probably right.

Having thought they were done they do seem to keep bouncing back and I keep reacting.

No need to, obviously. Looks like folks pretty much know my take on the subject...

You could have stopped right here. Not everyone might agree with you, but it's an opinion about the movies, and expressing those is fine here.

But then you had to go and take a swipe at folks who, in fact, do want this shit known as Kelvinverse.

That's not fine, and it's that bit which earns you a warning for trolling.

Comments concerning this, if there are any, are to be taken to PM.

Okay. I am sorry :(

I'd be really happy if that means two Kelvins and one Tarantino.

***Oh and I'm not going to read through the whole thread, so I don't know if it's been touched on. But since this is post-merger have they said whether Kurtzman going to exec or will Hawley bring in his own people?

Actually Abrams I believe. His Bad Robot production company. Jason

Interesting article. Some points:

But is a Star Trek film that costs less than $150 million even feasible given the current state of blockbusters? It’s possible, sure, but a cheap Star Trek movie seems unlikely to provide the kind of effects, action, and world-traveling that has become expected of space movies in a post Guardians of the Galaxy and Force Awakens world.

Add in the increased costs which come from being the fourth in the series, with an in-demand cast (in contrast to previous Trek film series), and there's not a lot of room to move if they're significantly cutting the budget.

While Star Trek has a large fan base

Not so much outside the US, going by box office for previous films. Their takings tend to be much more US-centric than other genre films.

Another component when it comes to looking at the scale of Star Trek 4, is the fact that CBS All-Access has revitalized the TV component of the franchise with Star Trek Discovery and Star Trek: Picard. For Star Trek 4 to be a worthwhile endeavor, it has to be a story that doesn’t feel like it could simply be told in the streaming format.

The season 2 finale for Discovery was a movie-level spectacle. It's hard even for a film to top that.

Abrams’ sequel Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), which deserves far more credit than it gets from fandom

Damn straight.

Well, if true.. It looks like another trilogy.. so Hopefully it'll be planned out Alot better.. Do a Empire strikes back of the bad guy Winning! :)

People need to realise this cast is not the young cast anymore we fell in love with. all the actors apart from pine are now in their 40s, pine is approaching 40.

I will always say that paramount threw away this franchise and wasted so many opportunities. I doubt there would be a 5th or 6th film.

its best they just reboot and start fresh and let this kelvin film end as a trilogy.

1991 called, Star Trek VI is cancelled because the cast is too old.
