I did read that members of the 501st did appear for a big scene in mandalorian, but I imagine it was not the episode 3 scene, but a scene still upcoming. I am pretty sure the director can give instructions to extras without needing to upgrade their status.. after all it's part of directing. But if they give an extra a distinct line or noteable action, that is different

Remember in Empire Strikes Back after Lando announced the evacuation of Cloud city there is that one extra carrying a white cylinder that we all know is actually an ice cream maker. Well the case that contains Mando's bounty happens to look the same

I have no idea on the rules, but my thinking, which is absolutly wrong..
Probably a big imperial battle in an upcoming episode, and instead of fashining extra outfits or going cgi, they decided to ask the local 501st to be extras, and they were probably more than happy to help!
But as for the getting paid thing, I think the ones that' we've seen have been regular actors, and paid accordingly, the 501 scene is probably when that Moff shows up latter in series with more troopers in clean uniforms.
I like Jon and Dave doing this, they are truely fans, and inviting the 501 in was quite nice!

Precisely. I myself am a former reenactor of many years (hence my handle), and I participated in the short film “An Incident Near Falaise” as a WWII Austrian Mountaineer. Many of my closest friends in that and other units participated as background extras in both “Gettysburg” and “Gods and Generals”. None of us got any money for any of it. We did it for the fun of it, and for the ability to say “There I am!” for the 5 or 6 short frames we were on the screen. We took choreographic direction about where to move for the scenes and we showed the film crews how to move in those situations to make it believable. And, since none of us had any speaking lines and weren’t in SAG, no payment, and we were 100% okay with that. As you say, we never did those things with any expectation of payment. That’s why we call it a hobby.
I should correct myself, however. Yes, I made the assumption that the 501st didn’t get paid for the work they did without evidence, which may or not be the case. I don’t really know. They’re cosplayers and, like reenactors, they do this stuff for fun - charities, demonstrations, contests and parades and such. Rarely for money. I could be wrong, however, and yes it is possible that Lucasfilm compensated them. An equal assumption of guaranteed payment, however, is just as speculative as my assumption of non-payment, and can only be truly settled by someone in the 501st wandering in this thread and saying “yes” or “no”.

Hey Fireproof I agree. But Im saying. Let the new movies or new trilogy be created and planned better. So as to take the time and pressure off Lucasfilm.

So, i guess in general, Yes they get paid, but its only like 10-15$ an hour or so.. which is not much..
You can join the union after having 3 "Extras" days, you have to be invited in to the union, can't just join. That gets you bit better pay and protection of the union.
So it depends on how many days the 501 were there.. if they showed up for 8 hours of work and were done.. they'd get a days pay and thats it..

I'd say at the very least that LF probably made a very generous donation to one or many of the 501st's charitable causes for their members' time.

I would be surprised if the 501st members weren’t paid for their appearance. It’s a professional production not a fanfilm.
Plus free breakfast and lunch and use of the honeywagon.......
No, I think he was really pissed that Mando broke the Guild code.
^ I imagine Greef's ass is probably going to be on the line too as I'm sure he wouldn't be held blameless by the types who would employ his services. EDIT: writing that, I see that was probably Koric's point. But even if the code wasn't a matter of honor, just as a matter of business it would be something he probably couldn't let stand.

I didn't expect the episode to go exactly like that. Broad strokes, yes. The ending was refreshing to me, though.
I had expected Mando would not deliver the baby. I thought something would happen and that he would not deliver the goods. Or he would refuse payment and keep the baby. Something.
So I was surprised he actually left the baby with the Imperials, took the payment and went on his way. Of course, I knew that wasn't going to last long. Then the payment got melted down and turned into armor. There goes the idea that he'd return the payment and maintain some honor or good reputation among the guild. A job is a job and if he reneges on the deal, what message would that send? Would he get future work?
But he completed the job. Took payment. Then went back and stole the baby from the Imps. And his clan helped with the escape. Mando was lucky they didn't kill the baby right away.
Will we see this Imperial and his cloner buddy again?

Oh, it's from a forthcoming episode. Gotcha. Yeah, there's no way those half dozen or so HIGHLY featured guys from the 3rd episode were anything other than actual actors/stunt people.
