Spoilers The Mandalorian | Disney+ | Streaming Nov. 12

People have gotten banned recently for drifting.
Who? Because I think half the active posters here could get banned for that, because threads will drift a lot, especially in SW. Heck, I know for a fact that discussing Abrams Trek has brought up Star Wars and resulted in a 2 to 3 page drift.
So Luke spends very little time training and does incredible feats, but isn't a Mary Sue? Most of the things we see him do, retrieve his light saber and blow up the Death Star were done with zero real training. Yet Rey is a Mary Sue for doing pretty much the same exact things.

What a world we live in.
Yup. Good thing we have a thread to post in to solve this worldwide problem ;)

All I know is that the original films have a few flaws but regarded as classics.. prying into flaws, some of which are not flaws, as a means of justifying decisions made on the new films gets old to me. Maybe it would be different if I liked the stories, maybe not. I personally liked Rogue One, Solo, and the Mandalorian, and even though I notice things here and there in those films/shows that don't jive 100% with what I like about the OT, I'm for the most part good with it, and yet can pick that stuff apart in good fun.

I think there is a lot of potential for them screwing up how baby Yoda is used.. I may even agree that he or she is too powerful. But maybe not.

But as of right now I like the Mandalorian.. for show that was advertised as being a bit edgier than what SW might normally be, it seems to embrace the whimsy George had in mind when created the first film and had the characters involved in "from the frying pan to the fire" type cliff-hangers

All classics have flaws.

Star Wars is on the top 10 lists of movies with the most mistakes in the film production. Noting those flaws doesn't diminish the work. It's accepting the work as is.

I'm just trying to suss out the thinking behind some of the non-sense.
Same here. Thus far, it's been tough to try to understand this POV.

It isn't justifying decisions, it is the acknowledgement that those decisions were there all along. One doesn't need much in the way of training to use the Force goes all the way back to A New Hope. You didn't mind them because they were tied to a white male character as opposed to a female.

Bill, I'm going to quote this in the other thread :)

It isn't like we're discussing Buck Rogers or something. It is Star Wars and actually does tie in with The Mandalorian.

Can't you please take this conversation to the other thread where this exact same conversation is already happening, so we can actually talk about The Mandalorian.

If there's something to say about it, then say it and put the thread back on track. Right now, there really isn't much to talk about that we haven't already. And four days until another episode.

Nineteen minutes is the current expected length for a sitcom. The current expected length for an epic drama is 1+ hours, and if you are going to be doing significantly shorter that need to be made clear in the advertising.
It might be the common length, but as far as I know there is now actual rule that says all dramas have to be an hour.

I can't figure out any other reason Rey's use of the Force is any different than Luke's. They are both novices that pull some pretty decent feats completely out of their asses with the Force.
the fact that you can't doesn't mean there isn't. The fact alone that she can shoot three TIES in one shot or lift rocks without breaking a sweat or mastered swordfighting and winning her first time out might be a few things to consider

need to be made clear in the advertising.
Why? they can do what they want. I mean everyone touts Black Mirror as this awesome show but most of the episodes are too long.. once their "hook" is revealed, episodes usually drag on for another thirty minutes, for no good purpose.

Loving The Mandalorian. I thought the first half of episode 1 was too slow and vague, but I’ve been glued to the show since the second half of episode 1. Looking forward to the third. I love how The Mandalorian gets his ass kicked multiple times, but keeps trucking along.

At this point it seems he’s developing a soft spot for Baby Yoda. Wonder how far he’ll go in terms of turning him over.

I think the Mandalorian might be the most SW thing since SW. Sure SW has always been epic, but it was also inspired by formats of pulp sci fi that were episodic. Lucas made a movie that was still very episodic. The act breaks in the original film are the most distinct in all of cinema perhaps. And Act 2 on the Death star was definitely less about narrative thrust so much as showing the characters' bonding as they go form one exciting incident to the other .. which is Lucas trying to recapture something form the old serials. But since SW is now just epic big films ever since, that serialized film (while not entirely lost) has become a bit mitigated... yet with the Mandalorian you are getting short half hour episodes that, while connected, could seem to thrive on the fact that we have to wait a week to see what new pratfalls will happen next.. we are meant to wait a week to see what he might decide to do.. we are meant to wait a week to see if the adventure will continue as we expect or if he will have to do a side quest. I hate to say it.. but maybe SW is more suited now to streaming and this half hour format than it was to big films after the first couple of films were made.

Was that in episode 1 or 2 of The Mandalorian? :brickwall:
