Episode IX Speculation and Discussion

Meh. I appreciate echoes in the films. This is something different. I think it would show cunning for Palps to be able to have planned for his potential death on the Death Star. Catching an air grate is cheap.

Although we most likely won't find out how he survived within TRoS itself, I highly doubt it's as simple as you're trying to make it sound.

And my broader point remains: Star Wars storytelling is and always has been cyclical, so Palpatine surviving the destruction of the second Death Star and being thrown down a reactor shaft is both plausible and has precedent within the franchise.

In the dialogue, yes, it will likely be as simple as “I didn’t die on the Death Star.” I just hope the supporting material actually gives it some depth. That’s all I’m asking.

I'm not expecting his survival to even be addressed through dialogue in TRoS; I have an "informed suspicion" that he'll just show up and people who want an explanation will have to wait for and turn to other Canonical resources in order to get it.

No “informed suspicion” is really needed. It’s not vital to the plot. There’s a lot of ground to cover in the run time. In the film, it’ll be glossed over at best, ignored at worst. And yes, it’ll be filled in in the tie-ins.

With a runtime of 155 minutes, there's plenty of time to include a brief explanation of what happened.

I argue there’s not a ton of time when other than Palps, you have to service Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo, Chewie, Lando, Leia, BB-8, D-O, Artoo, Threepio, Rose, Hux, Ghost Luke, Zori, Jannah, Connix, Maz, Pryde, Snap and Dominic Monaghan’s character in some form or fashion.

Abrams did ok with the trek ensemble, I'm sure he will here too.

I agree. I’m just suggesting with 22 characters (plus supporting which admittedly includes some of my list), I’m not counting on a whole lot of character development unless your name is Rey or Kylo.

I'd like finn to get some development too. I like the concept of his character, it's been largely wasted, especially in the last film.

Why not? It's a teaser not plot exposition.
It's a movie poster showing something not in a movie. Seems weird.

that wasn't really his face.. the picture of Palpatine on that poster was just taken from the Hot Toys box
Yep, still they showed his face.

Saul Go watch Star Wars Rebels and you'll learn what the World Between Worlds is.
Oh yeah. Now I remember. But if I couldn't remember that what hope does that plot point have with the general movie audience?

Considering how much general audiences were confused by Maul’s return, the World Between Worlds would be a terrible choice.

Let's be clear about something: I have never suggested that the World Between Worlds is something that's going to feature in this film.

I brought it up merely in relation to whether or not Palpatine had discovered the secrets to immortality that Plagueis was purported to have uncovered, stating that if he (Palpatine) had discovered those secrets, he would have had no reason to seek out the World Between Worlds.
