Episode IX Speculation and Discussion

Let's be clear about something: I have never suggested that the World Between Worlds is something that's going to feature in this film.

I brought it up merely in relation to whether or not Palpatine had discovered the secrets to immortality that Plagueis was purported to have uncovered, stating that if he (Palpatine) had discovered those secrets, he would have had no reason to seek out the World Between Worlds.
And to clarify, I don't think Palpatine found out his master's secret. Only that he would not have given up.

I'm not expecting his survival to even be addressed through dialogue in TRoS; I have an "informed suspicion" that he'll just show up and people who want an explanation will have to wait for and turn to other Canonical resources in order to get it.
I have a feeling they're going to have to put in at least one quick line about how he survived for the people who only watch the movies, and then they'll go into deeper details about what exactly he's been up to in a book or comic. It's jut way to big of a thing for them to not address it somehow.

I agree. It needs something. One line of dialogue. A few seconds of the runtime.

At the end of the day I want to know, or his return is going to look fucking ridiculous.

It is possible that Palpatine's foreseeing skills were just enough for him to plan ahead and put a portal to the World Between Worlds in the Death Star II for him to get through on the fall. He always had backup plans and escape plans, so it wouldn't be out of character. It would just be a massive stretch to have it happen to be down the shaft and him passing though caused that massive blue blast up the shaft that washed over Vader. But than he's have to come up with a place to come back out again....Ezra and Thrawn's location? Or one of the old Sith temples hidden in the Unknown Regions...or his personal Super Star Destroyer that so happens to have vanished into the Unknown Regions?

Of course it won't.
It looks like his throne is in the same place as the Star Destroyers in the trailer, so I'm thinking those are his ships rather than Kylo and Hux's.

In the dialogue, yes, it will likely be as simple as “I didn’t die on the Death Star.” I just hope the supporting material actually gives it some depth. That’s all I’m asking.

They can say the Emperor ForceTimed his appearance in ROTJ, a-la Luke in TLJ.
The energy blast from the shaft was released when the connection was broken.

Maybe we'll get a scene akin to the beginning of The Two Towers where we saw Gandalf's fall from his POV. Perhaps the massive blast we saw was force lightning Palpatine used to cushion his fall...

Listening to Empire’s End now. Read the Resistance Rising preview not knowing it spoiled the end of that. Oh well!

Some speculation incoming. I've tried to keep up with this thread but I've missed a bunch recently. Just had a couple of low-impact thoughts on Snoke and thought I'd run it by you all, especially those of you caught up with all the canon literature:

Based on the conversation Han and Leia have in The Force Awakens at the base on D'Qar, my guess is Snoke was:
a) a former instructor at Luke's Jedi academy
b) an expert on The Force and ancient Jedi knowledge
c) combination of the above
This puts Snoke close enough to Ben to turn him to Kylo over time.

Remember Kylo 'talking' to his grandfather's helmet? Kylo asks Vader's helmet to "show him" again, something. Anything from lit reveal what Kylo was shown?

PS I have never had a keen interest in Snoke, I found him to be a bit of a red herring from the start, but I have a feeling there will be a retcon story point that will deepen The Last Jedi on rewatches.

So he has become 'The Master'.

Or the Borg queen or the Daleks, who were killed off in their first outing and their next appearances contradict what was set up in their first story! It just seems inevitable. Crowd-pleasing critters never die if they're that good despite it all, and to be fair they all kinda are. No matter how cheesy the return or retcon is.
