USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

I suppose this is what we get when the licensing deal requires 25% difference.
That isn't a real thing. It was debunked by CBS over a year ago.

And debunked again in Discovery Season 2 this year when they used original footage from TOS in a previously on segment.

Plus the Picard trailer having a Galaxy Class, and the TNG movie combadge with no changes

No. What was debunked was that they had to make the new one different. They didn't. But they made it 25% different so that they could sell the licences for toy manufacturers etc again, as this was not the same old Enterprise they already had the licences for.

25% isn't even a legally binding thing, it's bull.

I know what it is, I'm just saying it isn't an actual legal thing.

Like you can't go to court saying "Well my thing is 25% different so they can't sue me" or something when you've only 75% plagiarized something else.

Interesting question.. Hmmm.
Is Kurtzman Trek 25% different? Or, is it 75% Plagiarized?
I like it!
Now for me, I may be able to get on board with this new "Prime" timeline. However, it would require them doing a Pike Series.. I do not like Spock in the STD universe. I don't care how the character came off in the Cage. Spock in STD is horrible. anyhow, more importantly, I am speaking of the aesthetics of the Prime universe as opposed to that of the "Alpha" time line, or original Star Trek.
There are many different realities. So for me, that explains much of STD.
I may be able to get on board, but they would need to overhaul that STD design.. I mean, just a few tweaks and they could still have a 25/75% different ship, and have something that proportionally feels more like the Alpha timeline's version.

I mean I know this is what we got in STD S2..

But after being attacked and damaged, It would make sense to see it again later with Pike at the helm, and having had it refit before being redeployed on Pike's 5 year mission. I did some tweaks.. I could get on board with this (Kurtzman Trek) in that scenario. AESTHETICALLY..

The coolest thing they could have done was (at the end of the S2 finale) to show Pike reassuming command of the Enterprise at dry dock as it appeared in WNMHGB.

not the Discoprise we ended up getting.

Still plenty of time for it. We still have many more nostalgia boxes to check off.

There is only one version of the timline.

Won't ever happen. In the Disco version of Trek, the Enterprise always looked like that as seen in the pre-"Cage" "Q&A"

They rebooted the 23rd century. Accept it or don't:shrug:
If they thought they could score "cool" points with it I think they would.

I'm not really worried about. Updated visuals are the least of my concern when it comes to Trek.

I have no problems accepting the Enterprise in DIS as how the ship always looked, but I'm not even going to try to reconcile her differences with the Enterprise in TOS. Visual continuity with TOS went mainly out the window from episode one, although I have appreciated a few nods towards it here and there as the series continues. I just accept DIS as an updated version of Trek using today's production values, but that doesn't mean I have to mentally change previous Treks to make everything fit nice and neatly. I think we've just reached a point where Trek has to be looked at as various productions that share a general continuity, but not necessarily a totally perfect one, IMO.

Enterprise was updated for Today's producton values..
But then use A Tos Romulan Bird of Prey that looks almost right on in Picard.. Interesting..

It certainly has a ton more detail, but the shape and proportions are there. If they'd updated the Enterprise with better detail and left out the angled pylons and row of windows on the saucer, there would be less complaining.

I just mean the intent of the story is for all of it to take place in the same history.

Intent of the author doesn't always translate to the story being told. To me, the differences put Discovery in a different reality than TOS. TOS is the odd man out at this point (which I'm fine with), it is simply there for them to mine for whatever bits of trivia they can cram into the current incarnation.

And none of it is what trips me up where Discovery is concerned, the lackluster writing does. It is especially disappointing when you see that some writing talent is there, but simply can't get over the hump from mediocre to good.
