Spidey OUT of MCU

Naa.. Apple or Amazon will buy Sony.. there the ones who need a studio for there own streamer service..

Happy to hear.. kind of.. just hope next one is better..
Yeah.. making a billion Plus does grease the wheels..

Looking at the deadline article, I see Kevin Feige released a quote:
https://deadline.com/2019/09/sony-w...o-to-appear-in-future-marvel-pics-1202746497/

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” said Feige in a statement. “Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.

Translation: Holland's showing up in Venom 2.

I have mixed feelings on this based solely on the fact that Sony now has to take 25% less of the profits from SM3 whereas Marvel Studios still gets to keep 100% of the profits from whatever movie Peter next appears in outside of SM3.

The new deal was signed late on Thursday night. Negotiations involved top players from both studios, including Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman, Feige, and Walt Disney Studios head Alan Horn. In exchange for lending Feige’s producing prowess, Marvel and Disney will receive roughly 25% of the profits, according to insiders. Disney will retain its merchandising rights. As part of the arrangement, Spider-Man will also appear in one future Marvel Studios film.

From the initial demand of 30 percent to 25 percent profit share. Sony buckled.

Please, God no. There's been enough studio consolidation. Not everything needs to be under the auspices of Darth Mickey.

Considering the fact that there are rumors (credible or not, who knows?) that everyone from Apple to Paramount will buy Sony, who knows what's going to happen? But no, Sony getting bought by Disney wouldn't be great.

I'm disappointed. I was really looking forward to real life writing the plot and seeing how the MCU would explain his absence going forward, and how Spidey would have talked around none of his super-friends being around anymore. :(

Oh well, here's to more generic, cookie cutter Marvel Cinematic Universe films...

Disney originally wanted half the profits (50%), not 30%, so, no, this isn't Sony ceding ground.

I still don't think this new agreement is as reciprocal as it should've been, but it is what it is.

Darth Mickey is good.

You could also say, Disney is a media Kingpin.

I'm really glad this happened. I may not have liked Homecoming, but Far From Home looks interesting (waiting for the DVD release), and Sony hasn't done a good solo Spider-Man film (not counting animation) since spider-Man 2, and I had no interest in seeing them fuck up again.
NIGHT MONKEY RULES AND RULES ALL! :techman:

It's already been confirmed multiple times that the Deadpool franchise will continue.

What Feige is referring to involves Tom Holland appearing in Sony's slate of non-MCU films, all of which occupy their own universe.

Can't wait for the "Finally, Sony came to their senses! I guess even they're not too stupid to give away free money!" takes to start pouring in.
Honestly, it's nice BOTH sides figured it was better not to change a paradigm that was working for BOTH studios WRT the Tom Holland version of Spider Man.

There's so many variables that go into what a film brings in the the box office, and that's why studios are LOATH to try new things if they have something they know has worked well in the past.

The director of Deadpool 2 seems much less certain. But, sure, I'll take your random Internet poster word for it...
There are plenty of official sources from Disney that say they are willing to continue Deadpool as an R-rated franchise. However being willing and actually doing it are two separate things. I'd say the odds of an R-rated DisneyPool as a direct sequel to Deadpool 2 are about... 50/50 and those odds get worse as time goes by with no announcement.

Glad to hear they made a new deal. The fact that the deal is 25% makes me think Disney must have been the ones to cry "uncle". So I wonder which other character's MCU movie he'll pop up in? Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would be my first thought, since that's the one that's most likely to take place in New York.
