News [SPOILERS] New Article from STLV-2019...

I love the idea Seven had to humanize herself, consciously alter her speech patterns and all that to survive in the Federation. I guess there's a lot more prejudice in the non-Starfleet Trek world to former members of the Borg.

Also Del Arco's comment that the new Borg makeup hasn't been revealed yet... I'm curious how they've evolved the look.

It's interesting for the "inside the head" moments from the actors. But in terms of the show's plot, the only thing it really tells us is that Hugh, Seven, and Riker have roles above and beyond single-episode cameos.

Interesting article. It would be cool to have a Denobulan character in the series. I like John Billingsley.when he played Phlox on Enterprise.

Seven probably could have been her old self if she chose to live on Vulcan instead of Earth.

She wanted to put as much distance between herself and Tuvok's mind-numbing monologues as possible. :P

Definitely some interesting stuff there. I wonder what the big event that effected Borg is?

The "Logic Extremists" didn't like a human girl or a half-Vulcan boy living on their planet, I doubt they'd be too fond of a former Borg drone.

Well, there isn't any mention of them in the 24th century. So presumably, that faction is gone.

Frakes gushing over Stewart "crushing it" on set is awesome but hey I don't expect anything less from Patrick Stewart at this point. In regards to secrecy I can't wait to see what else is revealed character/story wise as we get closer, the only thing that could make this any better for me would be a confirmed cameo of Guinan and/or Q but I think if they did it'd be a closely guarded secret that we won't find out about for awhile yet.

That's not enough to guesstimate the political situation on the planet at all. DSC to TNG isn't even one Vulcan lifespan.
Considering that the Federation's last resort in saving Romulus was aging, frail Ambassador Spock, it doesn't sound like the Vulcans were exactly proactive in helping the Romulans (many of who were civilians and shouldn't be held responsible for the Romulan govt's actions against Vulcan).

Now that the Countdown comic has been thrown out an airlock by Data's status in Picard, the entire situation involving Romulus' destruction and Vulcan's involvement (or lack of) will be (re)visited. The Picard show will probably shed light.

We see reminiscences of Tuvok's time on Vulcan. There are also dealings with Vulcan characters such as Sarek, and no mention of such an extremist movement.

I suppose Chu'lak, the Vulcan assassin in DS9 S7, could possibly be retconned as a mastermind in the Logic Extremist movement, much like Spectre retconned Blofeld into being behind the scenes of all the bad stuff that happened to James Bond in Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall.

If they're making Jeri Ryan wear a hood and gloves while walking on set, you can be sure they're murdering anyone who sees Whoopi Goldberg and John DeLancie and you're not going to know about their appearance until it airs.

Summary, am leaving the juicy stuff to the article:
It sounds simple on paper, but if it’s what Ryan needed to find her way back to playing Seven of Nine again, then we’re more than glad she found it—it’s so nice to see her and a whole bunch of other familiar Trek faces back for this show. Picard is set to hit CBS All Access early next year.

Some of the article is obvious (backdrop to 7's character) but reading how Jeri found her way, I'll be glued to the set. If I wasn't already, the Borg finale in "Endgame" just didn't fill like the Borg were gone forever...

“I was literally freaking out. I was bursting into tears: ‘I don’t know what her voice is! I can’t find her.’ So, Johnny came over and we had lunch and read the script for like an hour and finally he just – I was so freaked out I couldn’t think clearly about it – he said after an hour: ‘just try this, what if…The Borg have always been hated, they are universally hated because they were bad guys, they were tough. But, there’s other elements in this world with the Borg. And, what if she had to make the choice to be as human as possible, to survive, to sound as human and act as human as possible. Clearly, she is always going to look like a former Borg, because she has these implants that can’t go away. So, what if she had to make that choice – a conscious choice – to sound as human as possible.’ And that’s all I needed. That’s what I needed! I just needed something for it to make sense as an actor as to why she would have that huge of a chance. Then it made sense to me.”

In other words, Seven of Nine assimilated into Earth culture. That makes sense. Conformity is a problem today and it's still going to be a problem 400 years from now. If you don't conform, you're a "deviant", you're "other", you're "hated". So she has to unfortunately do what she can to avoid that kind of treatment.

I like the way Jeri Ryan and Jonathan Del Arco approach playing these characters because it shows an undercurrent of even in the 25th Century, people in general are still not as accepting of differences as they like to claim. The same as today.
