The Enterprise-E is not my favorite Enterprise design, but believe me I prefer it vastly to the Enterprise-F as seen in Star Trek Online. If we do see an Enterprise, a new -F design would be nice AND symbolic of the changing times. I didn't note that this seems to be the latest look for Starfleet Headquarters. The place has had several different appearances and locations over the years, but it was conveniently and significantly damaged at the end of the Dominion War; so a new look wouldn't be out of place. We only saw the destruction of the Starfleet Academy campus on screen, but the location and orientation of the HQ and Academy buildings have shifted back and forth. In any case, would we assume that the entrance to the campus is where Picard is seen? That would be a new perspective as well, and thus excusable compared to historical shots, which are always from on the grounds (people beaming down to them or otherwise walking into the scene, having already arrived). IRL the HQ shot from the trailer is the Anaheim convention center, whereas much of the other episodes for HQ and the Academy have been from the Van Nuys water reclamation plant and park. Google says the park still exists, so I'm guessing they wanted something different to either show the passage of time, or that they wanted a grander, "main entrance" sort of setting where dozens of extras could be milling around, for which Van Nuys may not work out well without significant alteration. And I guess... Ray Walston may be gone, but would a Boothby reference be out of place? Picard walking by a plaque dedicated to the old gardener? Or an old elm tree with the letters "A.F." carved into it? Mark
Agreed 100%. Also, the Enterprise-F was designed in 2011. Granted Eaglemoss produced a model of it not too long ago, but they've also made other non-canon ships. Hopefully the producers of STP will not feel slavishly beholden to use a 9 year old non-canon design created for a video game for their brand-new take on the Enterprise-F if they choose to show it.
I'm inclined to think that if we do see the Enterprise-E, she'll be an upgraded version that will share some design elements (like nacelles or deflector dish) with some of the newer ships in the fleet. But I'm also inclined to think that we won't see an Enterprise at all in this series.
Also the Star Trek Online USS Enterprise-F isn't suppose to be around yet. Not for another 10 years or so in their timeline. The USS Enterprise-E should still kicking around, making her the third longest lived USS Enterprise (in service) after the NCC-1701 (and the Enterprise-B likely just having become the second oldest Enterprise).
I looked up the STO timeline of the Enterprise-E to see where the overlap is. 2399 conveniently lies in a ten year "gap" of the ship's STO history, albeit under the command of Captain Data. This may or may not jive with the "Countdown" comic prequel to ST09, which has Cap'n Data come to Spock's rescue in 2387 and also meet Picard, who was actively ambassadoring at the time. "Countdown" also showed a slightly refitted Enteprise-E, on the inside anyway, having lots of fancy holographic displays added to an upgraded bridge and the like. Obviously "Picard" is not beholden to any of this, and actively suggests that Picard was still in command of the Enterprise in at least 2384 (fifteen years to the day, etc.), but not how that specifically ties in to the destruction of Romulus, though we're all sure it's a major plot point. Data still being apparently dead doesn't ally itself much with STO and "Countdown", either. Mark
I'm hoping that both Countdown and STO are completely ignored. From what I've seen in the trailers, I think I'll get my wish. And really, is it necessary to keep in continuity with a tie-in comic that a tiny percentage of Trek fans read, and a video game that a tiny percentage of Trek fans play?
How do you work that out? The Picard Museum says he left the Enterprise-E in 2381. Admiral Picard commanded the Enterprise-E until 2381, before he was promoted to admiral and given a special assignment by Starfleet Command.
I missed the 2381 reference. I was going on the notion that Picard followed Kirk's advice and never got himself promoted, meaning he'd still be a Captain and in command of the E-E by the time of this plot-relevant mission fifteen years prior to the supposed year in which "Picard" starts, twenty years after the events of "Nemesis" per the initial releases. IF Picard captained the Enterprise in this mysterious incident, then perhaps "Picard" may happen in 2396 instead..? Anyway, if true it suggests a different history to STO or Countdown, with Picard promoted out of the Captain's chair a mere two years after he wrecked the ship in "Nemesis". Who'd be in charge, then? The placard under the Ent-E said it's still the newest Enterprise. It didn't say if it was in service or not. It is possible that it is retired and they just haven't launched an Ent-F yet. Mind you they could have also just said that because spoilers.
Is there a photo of the placard? I’ve only seen pics of the three models but the placards were too small to read.
