Open Speculation about "Star Trek: Picard"

Not sure how I feel about the Borg being in this show. The writers definitely should not do a Locutus subplot. That arc should have ended with First Contact.
It was ALWAYS going to have the Borg in it. Welcome to Bad Robot "I know what that is so I clapped" that has infected Trek and Wars. They will throw every reference to anything from TNG that was relevant at all in wider pop culture in here to tickle that "I recognise this so it's good" part of the brain in general audiences just like what they did with TOS in Disco and like what they did with Star Wars in TFA.

This is why my guess is that the girl is a rebuilt Lal (funny ball gif meme thus pop culture relevant) and the story revolves around the Romulans trying to get the Borg cube up and running to harness the power of the Borg and need her to act as a Queen since Data is "dead". Also with others in thinking Data is a Hologram. Throw in some tedious crap about how the Federation is becoming corrupted or some shit with some hamfisted bad-centrist liberal take on the rise of the populist right.

Girl needs Picard’s help, goes to Starfleet for assistance, they say no and so he creates his own team of lowlifes and degenerates to save the day.
And there is apparently an elf in it.

I'm sure that's exactly what it will be. Well done.

I wonder how the Romulans got their hands on that cube. My guess is that the Borg are in disarray after jenaway infected the collective and destroyed Unimatrix 0. Which meant they retreated to core Borg space and left behind a lot of equipment and drones.

Also, I am not sure why people find many wrong things in using the Borg or references to TNG. The Borg are THE biggest threat to the Alpha Quadrant - especially after the Dominion got defeated - and so I only see it logical that they get to play a role here.

Except, they were destroyed in "Endgame." You know? That whole collapse the transwarp hub and destroy the Unicomplex plan?

I mean, I get that the Borg are adaptive and all that jazz, but that's a pretty big comeback at that point.

Also, as far as the Romulans go, we see transwarp conduit open around Earth and Borg ship pieces come out. Perhaps similar events happened at other termination hubs? Especially since the Borg have incurred upon Romulan space before.

ETA: As I was reading up on the Borg and "Endgame" at Memory Alpha I stumbled upon one Kristen Breyer's review of the episode. Small snippet below:

Beyer thought it "amazing" the Borg Queen doesn't defeat Voyagerimmediately upon being given the chance and thought the Borg were consequently difficult to take seriously. She concluded, "In the end, we got the moment we had been wanting for seven years and on a purely emotional level, it delivered. But in the final analysis, 'Endgame' didn't really earn that moment. It's almost worth it for that final shot of Voyager approaching Earth. Almost." Beyer later concluded, "It was such a troubling episode on so many levels." [14]

Now, I'm doubtful that Beyer remembers this review, but given the inclusion of the Borg as well as the consequences of Endgame I will be deeply curious to see how they work through this.

I think we'll see Janeway in the series. Maybe as an Admiral who looks the other way or sticks up for Picard. Her or Riker. Given how long he was in Starfleet, Picard has to have some higher-ups who are still with him and are secretly on his side. They agree with him but they can't do what he's willing to do on principle.

I suspect Admiral Janeway will be in this too, as well as a possible Admiral Ben Sisko?

I suspect we might see Lt Commander Nog, O'Brien might make an appearance at the beginning if it's on Earth as he should still be at Starfleet Academy.

I've been thinking it would be a good idea to have Picard's new crew take a stop at DS9 in the opening episode so we can get an update on what all those characters are up to

I bet we'll probably see Janeway. Sisko, I'm not so sure about. Avery Brooks doesn't do screen acting anymore, from what I understand. Also, I'd prefer that The Sisko not be a side character if he were to make his return. Which he probably would be in Picard. I see him either with the Prophets or retired on Bajor. I don't see him as an Admiral.

Arguing with closed-minded Trek critics offers a lot of difficulties. Number one being, you're arguing with closed-minded Trek critics.
It would be nice if there was an actual exchange and discussion of ideas...I know, crazy talk.

Yup. That ship sailed long, long ago.

My impression, due to the "5843 days without an assimilation" sign, is that the cube is actually claimed by the Federation and the Romulans we saw are renegades who have pirated it and are holding the Federation personnel hostage.

Its about time the lowlifes and degenerates of the federation got some representation. I think viewers need to see that not everyone in utopia is a beige two-piece wearing sedated synthahol sipping chamber music aficionado. Or is 'lowlife and degenerate' actually code for any Federation citizen who isn't currently serving in or never served in the boyscouts (also known in the 24th century as Starfleet)?

I mean, we did see Tasha's sister from the colony with rape gangs and murders.

I’m thinking Han Solo type of people. Maybe people who have dropped out of Starfleet from various reasons.

Seven dumped Chakotay's dumb ass as soon as they got back to the Alpha Quadrant, putting it down as a learning experience.

I think the prisoners are liberated Borg, hence why Hugh and Seven are involved

Well, Star Fleet Academy does like to traumatize its cadets with those secretly implemented 'no-win situations' tests where its only after you've had to leave your people to die they tell you "it was a test of character." I can imagine that tends to make plenty of permanently pyschologically scared kids walk away in disgust (as Wesley Crusher did).
