Need to have a look at the Short Treks trailer but that Picard trailer... Hot damn. I loved everything about it and I am very pleased by the tiny cameos. They're bound to be just that - cameo's - but I'm loving the story for it. Very, very curious about the series!

In fact, Discovery's season three premise is a great opportunity to deal with the fact that Trek's future is so... unfuturistic, in terms of culture, language, development of anything other than technology and of course, our more evolved sensibilities. You couldn't make the main cast of your new show so different from today that you couldn't relate, because the show is made for us; but Discovery has a ready made set of POV characters to fill that gap. It would be nice if what they encountered in the far future was more alien to us than we've seen before. Otherwise, it's Futurama.

Are we sure "Cleveland Book" is actually from the 32nd century, and not just a crewmember of the Discovery that got pulled along?

He's wearing the exact same outfit as Michael Burnham during the Iceland shoot. Meaning they're part of the same "away team".

Wow. 6 Short Treks and 3 of them are Enterprise-based. That's two more than what I was expecting. Might they be a sign of a possible Pike series or maybe a one-time feature-length special event? The focus of my excitement was shifted towards the Picard trailer, but these Short Treks also look awesome as well. I wonder if Pike's saying good luck to Number One who's finally getting her own command.

There's not much in the Discovery bit to work with, but it seems like the future or at least the region they've arrived in is not a utopian one. It might be a fallen Federation or an untamed, colonial frontier for all we know.

Kurtzman was asking the crowd if they "wanted" a Pike series, and let them chant for it.

If you'd ask me, the Pike series is not a done deal at this point, and the higher ups seem sceptic about it. But the showrunners (Kurtzman and co.) are trying to make it happen, and throwing stuff out there as "proof of concept", and that the fans "want" it. Creating elaborate sets with DIS' budgets. Then using those sets for shorts (because "we have them already").

This looks like a Hollywood "backdoor pilot", where producers have rejected a series pilot, and instead the creators try to make it happen with their resources within an already existing series (like Gene Roddenberry's "Assignment Earth" as a TOS episode). Maybe it will happen, but if it does, I guess it will take longer to actually premiere (at least 2022), because they aren't actively working on it currently, but rather trying to build publicity to make it happen.

Cleveland Brooker... way to start, Disco Season 3. Because, yeah, in 1000 years we can expect people to have still XX century names and last names. Wow, just WOW. I have been questioning Discovery writers since season 1, and things are just falling off the cliff.

You know, going 1k years into the future is risky for the franchise. First, you risk making all the past canon irrelevant. And second, you would expect things to be so drastically different, that depiction of this alien future could fail easily. Why didn't they pick a more reasonable 2-300 years into the future? Think about how things are different now compared to the XI century. Culturally, visually, scientifically... Plus, they are now messing with a period of time already touched by ENT with the Temporal Cold War. I can honestly see this going very bad, very quickly. Lots of downside, very little upside.

What made TNG so successful with fans was, IMO, that while in the future it wasn't that far off from TOS to be unrecognizable. 100 years are a good time frame where lots of change can happen, but everything can still be tied back to the old stories.

Now, 1k years is a HUGE gap. All we know could well be irrelevant, but the gap is so large that so many things could have happened that all that happened in the past lost relevance. Like you were living in the Roman Empire, and next thing you now you are in the USSR. You lose completely context and relevance... UNLESS... the past is somewhat used as foundation for the present (i.e., Roman and Greek civilization were the foundation of modern Western Society).

If in the far future the Federation didn't exist anymore (or the ideals/concept inspired by them), then Discovery Season 3 would totally be a waste of everyone's time and another bad attempt to reboot the franchise. Which, honestly, has been underwhelming since the beginning, plagued by rushed screenplay and very poor character development.

I am as excited about Picard and Lower Decks as I am totally not looking forward to Disco Season 3.

After Kurtzman's comments yesterday, I'm sure a Pike-series is being in development right now. Premiere: 2021. After Section 31 season 1, Picard season 2 and Discovery season 4.

IIRC SMG or someone else at ComicCon confirmed that Michael will be split up from the Discovery crew early on in the season, having her own independent adventures.

A thought occurs. Kind of amusingly ironic in the Short Treks trailer Spock calls the Prime Directive unethical and illogical given that according to Enterprise, a policy of non-interference originates from the Vulcans.

Yeah, "1000 years" into the future of an already space-faring future was really a bad idea. Either at this point the entire galaxy is connected, and people exploring different galaxies, or we had a galaxy-wide "fall of civilization". None of which will do any good for the Trek 'verse and upcoming series.

Personally, I see this future as only a "possible" future, like the futures of "All good things", "Endgame", or the one where the sphere builders won on ENT.

It cracks me up that everybody's complaining that te character name Crhistopher Booker is too generic, and still not wondering if he's going to be the Chaplian like Book in Firefly, which makes this new guy's being known as Book *actually* unoriginal...

Looks like a really good group of shorts overall. I think the only thing I could ask for would be another Harry Mudd appearance. Rainn nailed that role.

Obviously he can't appear in DSC again, so since I'm still holding out hope for a full Pike/Enterprise series, he could always pop up there (wishing really hard).

He himself can't, but I've just read a fanfic the other day about an android copy of his surviving into the 32nd century and trying to steal the Red Angel suit so that he could return to the 23rd century, kill and replace the original Mudd and build a criminal empire with his superior future knowledge.

The addition of David Ajala is a huge plus for me. I really enjoyed him on Supergirl this season. Seeing him act with Sonquea is going to be great and a lot of fun considering what his personality is suppose to be. Also those images of the two of them are really nice! I hope we find out who the captain is going to be but they're really dodging that question it seems. I think they know who the two options people want but I would imagine dropping that before we get closer to the new season might be a waste.

I'm not to crazy on the Pike/Enterprise Short Treks.I enjoyed the last batch a lot. I'm kinda tired of the Pike worship at this point and need some distance. So I might just skip those when they come out and watch them at a later point. If I have any negatives toward season 2 of Discovery its how attention was paid to Pike and at the expense I feel of the Discovery crew.I felt at times it was undercutting Michael as the lead character. This is why I don't want a Pike show or as much as I like Anson Mount as Pike and Pike in general I was happy to see him go.

Now I'm all for more Spock and Number One. We didn't get enough of her and I wanted more of Spock. This being a even younger version should be interesting. It seems the animated Short Treks are Discovery based so I'm looking forward to those. I'm really looking forward to the Star Trek: Picard Short Trek as well.

I knew the Picard show would get the bulk of the focus as it should. That trailer was great! I even like the Lower Decks infor we got. I just hope we see more about season 3 at STLV and/or NY Comic Con.

It did seem like that was where they were going with the muted single colors.

Nice to see H. Jon Benjamin in a short. He is definitely a good fit for a comedy short based on tribbles considering his work on Archer and Bob's Burgers.

With the confirmation that Burnham will have seperate adventures of her own in S3, plus the fact that Discovery didn’t make it to Terralysium, I wonder if Burnham and the ship got separated coming through the worm hole? Perhaps Michael actually did make it but Discovery is stuck elsewhere?

Either way, I’m a very happy camper! Great to see more of Una and Spock (plus omg tribbles!). I would be happy for a spin off with them, without Pike if they can get Anson to sign on.
