A bit of Relic Hunter thrown in wouldnt hurt either. I dont think its going to be quite as dark as some fear, although I very much doubt it will be all unicorns and rainbows either.
IOW, if we get something extraordinarily good and unusual and unexpected instead of yet another stale Star Trek show. Well...yeah. I'd agree that such an unlikely thing would be welcome.
So are we to infer that Pike using the Mirror Universe is okay with you but Discovery using it somehow wasn't? This keeps getting better and better. On another note: nice that we might see the Mirror Universe again.
You are to infer that Anson Mount made a joke on Twitter.* Well, certainly in the sense that your attempted "Gotchas!" continue to amuse me. *Twitter is a popular social media site where folks post and share brief messages. Check it out sometime.
At least we're both amused. Even if it's for different reasons. No shit. Last thing I need is a senior citizen to tell me about something I've been on since 2010.
It's probably significant that CBS's Star Trek site is so much on board this train... Captain Pike Represents the Future 'Discovery' Needs
The Section 31 show is so wrong headed I don't know where to begin. Somebody obviously saw Killing Eve and Breaking Bad and thought they could shoehorn the same sort of idea into Trek. Maybe they might be able to get us to root slightly for an anti hero getting away with bad stuff, I don't know. It'll still be a trainwreck in my mind though. That's not how Star Trek works. It has particular characteristics to it that if removed, simply stop it from being Star Trek. Chief amongst them are imparting ideas such as nobility, decency, camaraderie and friendship. Empress Cannibal does not and never will fit the bill.
Their recurrent conceit seems to be "We can do that thing that this cool smart modern drama series does..." and then proving that they can't.
Then don't view it as Star Trek. Just view as something that just happens to take place in the Star Trek Universe. And if it sucks on its own, or just flat-out isn't your cup of tea, okay fine. But it's not intended to be "More Trek than Trek". If that's what they were going for, I'd agree with you. But in big neon letters, that's not what they're going for.
As you all know I am fine with MU Georgiou and S31 being focused on in general. With that being said it is risky, I can only hope they have a solid script and plan for the show. If they are expecting Michelle Yeoh to carry it all on her back its going to be an uphill struggle.
For good or for ill I think that Discovery has demonstrated more of a need for ensemble support rather than one lone star carrying the weight. I love Michael as a character but Season 2 definitely engaged me more with Spock and Pike and Saru and all the wonderful relationship interactions.
