Received the Planet Killer today. No magazine of course :(. Love the model. It's quite heavy and feels solid. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with batteries (needs 2 x LR41 type batteries) and I don't have any. What I like is that the battery compartment is on the under side and is magnetic. So no crappy hinges or screws which was a great design choice. I'll pick up some batteries later to see how the LED light looks. Overall, it's just a really nice representation of this "ship?".

Which version is the model based on, the original VFX or the Remastered VFX?

That's hard to say at it's different than both versions. The colors are much lighter than either screen version and the model is smoother looking with just three clear "sections" defined as well as the seam along each side. It does not have the cracked looking lines as seen in this image https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/The_Doomsday_Machine_(episode)?file=Planet_killer_fires_antiproton_beam,_remastered.jpg

I'll try and upload some pictures later. I was going to wait until I got the batteries for it but will post some de-powered pics when I can.

    Hi Peeps!

I recently corrected the saucer phaser ports / pulse cannons on my EM 1701 Beyond Refit diecast (something I had wanted to do for a while now).

For those interested: I painted out the existed misaligned ports using Humbrol model paint (a gloss white mixed in with the smallest hint of flat black - to create an off-white / grey matching the base saucer colour as close as possible).

I then used a sharpie fine permanent marker to create ports again in their correct positions (essentially two dots each to evoke the shape of the cannon ports).

Finally, took a standard felt-tip marker (water-based) and coloured over the newly drawn ports, to soften the opaqueness of the permanent marker, and make it more subtle in hue. The water based marker was also used to give a shaded recess tone around ‘cannons’. Admittedly, water based markers don’t hold much sway on metal, however it does a good job of influencing the tone of the permanent ink on the surface.

TL;DR: IMO, my Beyond Refit looks much better with the correct phaser port alignments! :)

Had to wait a couple days to order some XL ships and lucked out that the three o was interested in went from 75 to 57 so for anyone in the US four or five of the XL are on sale and use VOYAGE To take another 15 percent off.

Picked up some batteries and LOVE THE LIGHT effect!! So wish they would have done this for many other ships in the line. It so... completes this model.

One thing I forgot to comment on the Planet Killer is that for a "special" it is small. It's only 9 in. long and the mouth has about a 2 in. diameter. I imagine it has to be because of the electronic piece adding to the overall cost. Still love it just after looking at it for two days I came to the realization that it's more in size to the regular issues as apposed to say Spacedock or XCV-330.

Compared to other "specials" it is. Yes it's long but it tappers off so it just doesn't have a large look to it. Especially next to the others I mentioned. It looks better on my shelf with the regular subscription ships than on the specials shelf.

That model really needs a little scale Constellation going into it for effect.

So as promised, here's some pics I took of my EM 1701-Enterprise Beyond Refit - with corrected phaser bank alignment on the top side of the primary saucer:

Obviously not a complex custom: simply re-drawing the phasers where they should have been placed, and painting out the incorrect ones, on the diecast.

Note: I also added the centre 'ring' marking, which can be seen on the Kelvin Enterprise (in all it's iterations).

:) I personally prefer it with the corrected phaser banks - and think it makes all the difference to the saucer, despite being, what is essentially, a subtle difference in placement.

Anywho - just thought I share!

I found an Eaglemoss Oberth Class in a charity shop of all places - it even had the original box. I couldn't help but buy it because the Oberths are among my favourites - gotta love a science ship!

I've also caved and bought an Enterprise D. This should arrive late next week, and I'll post pics when it arrives.:)

gonna have to get that fixed also!

If you had any pics of your sharpied dome, I’d love to see it! :)

    - Mine, too! The Grissom was the first Eaglemoss ship that I bought. I just love the improbable, cute little Oberth-class - and its "theme tune" when it first appears in The Search For Spock.

They are indeed intrepid little ships. I like how they are nearly always depicted as the background vessels, anonymously keeping the wheels of the Federation turning whilst the Enterprises get all the glamour assignments.
