Kristen Bell will be directing an episode next season, she will be the first cast member to direct an episode of the series. I look forward to seeing what she does.
I'm not too sad about that. I'd rather The Good Place know it's ending and have a real conclusion than go on forever and get canceled suddenly after a couple mediocre seasons with no direction. I read this headline as, "The Good Place to get the planned ending it deserves".
That’s a bummer. At least they can go out telling the story they wanted to tell and not have NBC being the ones cancelling the show.
Yup, that's exactly how I feel. I wish more shoes had that opportunity. It's certainly better than it was a decade ago when LOST began the trend, but it still has a ways to go.
Not terrible. It’s a show that had had huge changes each year, so makes sense to wrap a coherent story rather than start dragging it out until it sucks. They’ve kept moving and not fallen into a status quo, so good for them to choose to end it early on their own terms and the story they wanted to tell
While I will definitely miss, but it's good to know that this is their choice to end the story where they want to, rather than dragging it out beyond their intended end point.
So, not only will The Good Place be remembered as one of the greatest and most unique sitcoms ever, it will also be remembered for having gone out too soon rather than too late.
Michael Schur has gone into details why he's ending the show after four seasons: I didn’t feel like it needed to be definitive but I needed to have a sense of how long I thought the idea could sustain itself. I came to the conclusion pretty quickly that it was four seasons. There were times early on where I felt like maybe five and maybe it’s three. (Laughs.) Once I settled on four seasons, I didn’t tell anyone — except the writers. I didn’t tell the studio or network because I wanted to make sure that I was right and I wanted to leave open the possibility that as we as a team developed the show, I wanted to allow the possibility that something could change and there was more I wanted to do. Makes sense to me.
One of the things I felt with the Season 3 finale was how repetitive the show was starting to get. It just feels like the show was going in circles with the philosophy, memory deletions, and stuff like that. I hope they actually make it to some kind of real good place, or at least have a satisfying ending.
Of course I would love to see the show go on for a few more years, but 50ish episode really is a pretty good run.
I didn’t like the third season as much as the first two. Now knowing that this will be the last season makes me more excited for it. Four seasons is a good run.
I had forgotten about this series but my DVR recorded a 4th season sneak peak. It looks interesting. I lost a little interest each season, so I am glad they are going to wrap it it up this season.
Just finished the third season on Netflix, and now that I know the 4th season will be the last, we'll get this all wrapped up in a neat little bow and it will have a great sendoff as it deserves. Also, this means I can start saving up complete series DVD money now.
Love this show. While I wish they would keep making more seasons I respect the writer not trying to drag it out for another season. I'd much rather have a well written ending to the story than a watered down "good enough" ending a season later. Can't wait to see what happens in the new neighborhood this season. Disco Janet? Should be amusing when she shows up.
