As I said, "Nr. 1 streaming show" is a stupid made-up metric to go by, and also simply objectively false. Even if you add "only in demand".

Your sources are great - showing the most watched television is still old episodes and sitcoms.

But DIS is most definitely not "the most watched" original show. The only verifiable numbers we have come from Netflix - where DIS' best place was #5 for the month of April. Even in that month, "Sabrina" had more viewers than DIS.

But you can be 100% sure people TALKED a WHOLE lot more about DIS on the internet than they did about "Sabrina". But that's really the only thing this "#1" non-sense measures. If it where truly the most watched original show - we would have heard about that.

Wasn’t that just their UK numbers?

Yeah. Which is the only official hard numbers we actually have. And I mean both the UK and Germany are the biggest Star Trek nations outside of the U.S.

It would be nice to see some hard numbers for the US. Otherwise a lot of us are just arguing what we want to be true.

Though not necessarily. In the '90s, the fact that DS9 had lower ratings than TNG actually made me like it even more. I'm predisposed to back things I like harder, the less mainstream they are.

None of this matters to me. It could be the least-watched show in the history of television for all I care. All I care about is that someone at CBS thinks it's important to keep making them. That's really all that matters.

So I tried watching a bit of that Midnight's Edge video (in incognito mode so Youtube wouldn't remember) to see if I could get a sense of what argument they would make against these facts. I've never watched any of their videos before so I didn't know exactly what to expect. I couldn't last more than a few seconds, there was just so much stupidity. The whole argument seemed to be nothing more than, "I HATE IT!!!" He even tries to use the fact that the Screen Rant article was written by a guy whose last name is Bacon as evidence that DSC is a failure. :wtf: I'm not even able to comprehend the level of idiocy I just witnessed.

I've done it a policy of mine to always cut out the most extreme variants entirely from my thought provess and the conversation.

For DIS, that means both everything Midnight's Edge/Doomcock (is that really his name?) - related, and literally anything that contains the letters "SJW" unironically. But on the same side, I also filter out everybody who says "People don't like DIS because they're racists/sexist" or "The Last Jedi/Ghosbusters 2016 are only disliked for racist/sexist reasons".

I honestly don't believe the latter arguments are made genuine, and I see a LOT more actual rightwing propaganda flooding the internet (all those "crazy libtards show their true colors"/"radical left wing wants us all gay married..." reference events that look awfully staged).

But I filter all these out anyway. Not because any "radical" idea is automatically bad - I think a "radical leftwing socialised healthcare" system would actually be really beneficial for the people of the US.

But because almost ALL of the radical actors actually never debate in good faith, and there is NEVER any benefit for the conversation or exchange of ideas they bring to the table - it's always only appeals to emotions and hyperbole. And thus, everytime these things appear - even if it's only a midnight's edge reference on a Trek forum - the conversation absolutely gets worse and more 2-dimensional for everyone. Even if it's only about agreeing how ME is dumb.

I wish people would just stop mentioning Midnights edge and their opinions at all when it comes about conversations on Star Trek. We would be all richer for it.

The other thing with Midnight's Edge and people like them is that despite what they say, the last thing they want is for the thing they hate to be canceled. That would take away their entire revenue stream and their clickbait.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of legs Star Trek on All-Access has overall.

I do not think they would long want for finding something else that enough people on the Internet hate badly enough for them to successfully move on to that.

Tom Bacon? I follow him on Facebook. He's done a number of articles on Parrott Analytics. He also writes very well-researched pieces on the Marvel Cinematic Universe and other superhero franchises. Just more Midnight's Edgelord stupidity.

You did well to last that long, I have not watched his stuff but did peek at the video and 60 seconds was all I had the strength to watch. Him and that Dave Cullen guy who has a hate boner for Doctor Who since Jodie took the role.

I've had several Dave Cullen videos recommended to me by Youtube. I've never watched one because the thumbnails and titles just look so unpleasant.

Well, that explains why ME has an issue with him. Research and Midnight's Edge don't get along.

Discovery has the lowest average audience score of any Trek series: 48% on RT. Season 2 (35%) was lower than Season 1. So people watched it but didn't like it.

Don't trust RT's metrics. A lot of the reviews on there are just spam.

DS9 may have had lower ratings than TNG but it didn't mean it had low ratings; this could be the same with streaming on CBS ALLACCESS. The subscriptions are meeting their expectations, but I'm a little surprised CBS made the decision to go with the Picard series than going with a spin-off series for DISCO since it's the #1 streaming show in the world? There's enough present in the series to launch several spinoffs to open that world.

There is a spin-off already announced. They're waiting for until after Season 3 of DSC to start.

Also the Picard show was announced before Season 2 of DSC.

Well, yeah. DS9 was at the top in first-run syndication, after TNG ended, only competing with Hercules and Xena. Lots of good choices at that time.

They're making a Georgiou/Section 31 spin-off but it's not starting until after the third season of DSC. Could be a Pike Series in the works. Alex Kurtzman said "The fans have been heard." I think CBSAA knew there were enough people who wanted to see the 24th Century again 25th Century that they decided to try out a Picard Series.

If they're smart, they'll make the fact that there are different factions in Star Trek fandom work for them instead of against them. It's what I'd do. If they want to have series all-year-round, they can have a different show for each subset.
