News Kurtzman confirms more new shows will be announced

I think DSC will go for 5 seasons.

 

The 'market' is CBSAA wanting people to subscribe 12 out of 12 months of the year. Havinng one episode every week for a calendar year does not over-saturate the market. It's exactly the right amount of saturation.

 

I could go for a Star Trek featuring cast of puppets.

 

I think the Academy idea is going to happen at some point. People have been talking about doing a Academy show since the days Reagan was president. I think it's also a lock at some point that even if the show is focused on the kids we will see one already established character as the Dean. If I could choose now I would go with Will Riker. Frakes is someone who has stayed close to the franchise and he is old enough now that you can accept that his Captain days are over and he would be a Admiral. Maybe Troi is along as well as a Teacher or maybe they say she is dead like we saw in "All Good Things." I say let Ron Moore do the 24th century Academy show starring kids with RIker around as the grown up.

Three Trek shows and The Twilight Zone would be plenty to keep me subscribed year-round, if they each run 10-15 episodes.

 

No doubt that's the strategy they're looking at for maintaining year-round subscribers.

During the DS9 years, we got up to 52 episodes and a film in a year. We're nowhere near that yet.

 

Takei will still lobby to play the older version of his character to frame each episode, like Young Indiana Jones.

It has? I've seen TV shows with movie budgets and movies with TV show budgets. The TV isn't always great and the occasional big movie overcomes its budget limitations. That and there's an experience in the theater that transcends a living room and I don't mean jerks on their smartphones making nasty comments, whisper-hush tones or otherwise... and TV shows generally have more episodes, allowing deeper discussions rather than trying to form in a 2 hour 7 minute timeframe the re-use of existing characters in any way chucked together to varying levels of success. They don't always need the biggest budgets to work, unless that's all the audience is capable of wanting - big boom boom zappy zappy pew pew things. Just buy a video game, even the most expensive one is just as intellectually deep and has lots of pew-pew and costs a lot less to make.

So far, what's thrived? Last I'd heard, official ratings statistics haven't been released for DSC and there was spin involving new subscriptions during another big but non-Trek event a couple months ago. That and how come Netflix has dropped Trek streaming so Amazon would pick it up, for all except North America oddly enough? (The seemingly obvious reason makes less sense unless Australia and other countries that have access to CBS All Access actually don't?)

In other words, it hasn't thrived, not with the number of crew changes over its tenure. I do hope the show the best for season 3 and being away from a half-baked prequel setting there is a new lease on life. It might be worthy of another chance but a lot I'd seen as whole episodes was just poorly handled.. clips alone can pique interest but surrounded by (whole episodes), one good scene can't carry the whole thing.

The 1970s cartoon is unique and it's no longer the 1970s in a large number of ways and this isn't the place for sociology discourses. But many news articles also say TNG invented the holodeck when TAS clearly had the idea in place first.

I'm sure it's not been done before in Trek. Doesn't matter. Whether it has the right vibe is. Lots of shows at one point were all doing things never done before and they all weren't insta-ez-bake classics.

That remains to be seen. I'll eat the next paragraph with jalapeno ketchup if I'm proven wrong:

Yes, the rebel outlaw brats commandeer a ship and learn lessons while being funny and being comprised of a gaggle of Mary and Marty tropes who will always be able top repair the ship and make Wesley Crusher look dim by comparison because there's, as the grade school dropouts say, "there's no AI self-healing tech".

Picard has a LOT of potential. And keeping in mind, in previous eras, the same groups of people made lots of shows - not always related - and of those, some worked and some did not, I see no reason for anyone to dislike the show just because of who made it. After all, the Bugaloos are cool, Lidsville is the dope, and HR Pufnstuf was utterly lame... but Picard is big. And keeping in mind Stewart was otherwise done with the role so either what he was told was really good or he's doing this to drive fans away. Which option seems more likely? Which seems nutty?

What will they announce next? Dunno, it sounds like they have a lot on their plate right now.

I wish the franchise success, 25% different and what not. Other shows have had misfires and with DSC there were positive changes I'd heard and read, along with some goofy decisions, but the finale does open a new door. I'll wait and see and with an open mind.

What the hell are you talking about? Netflix still has DSC and all the other Treks. Amazon just outbid them for Picard. Amazon is competing with Netflix and sees the Picard show as a way to earn subscribers. It's silly to think the brand is not doing well. ​

 

Well, so far not a thing about this looks interesting. Dull Trek.
