This reminds me of how we thought season 1 would be about Discovery and Shenzhou in the exact same manner, lol.

It would cost twice as much.

Besides, I'd like to see Star Trek: Discovery focus on the Discovery characters. I'm actually cautiously optimistic about season three because of it being away from everything we know.

I don't think current contracts with the actors would allow that.

In fairness, the Shenzhou featured very heavily in the first season, particularly if you count the MU plot. It certainly featured more than the Enterprise

I just don't see the comparisons of old and new Trek particularly illuminating - this is a completely new era of broadcasting with different norms - it's a bit early to be talking about fatigue. Especially given the shows are generally about half or less (Picard show is ten episodes I think) than old trek.

More simply on a narrative level - it's difficult to compare shows with on-going stories with episode of the week shows where for the viewer it's not that important if they miss an episode or even watch them out of order.

No, because the Enterprise would continue to function as a safety net for Discovery’s jump into the unknown. You want execution of the original concept to succeed or fail on its own merits.

It's Star Trek Discovery, it should be, and will be, solely about the continuing adventures of the Discovery crew in wherever they ended up.
Much as I want a Pike series, it should no longer be piggybacked to Discovery.
Start filming Discovery, and while they're doing that, get Mount, Peck and Romijn (sp) on board, suitably imbursed, and committed to Star Trek : The Pike Chronicles

Wasn't it more Discovery piggy-backing on Pike and (especially) Spock?

    In a way, but. . . . .
It was Star Trek Discovery, Pike and co were merely guests for most of the season, welcome guests of course, but guests nevertheless.

Pike didn't show up til the last minute of season 1. Spock much later. DSC doesn't need them, although they're awesome characters.

Not if they're made by different people with different creative visions. That's how Marvel got around that problem.

You can't be serious, Pike and Spock were season two.

Which part do you think wasn't serious? Pike didn't show up until the end of season 1 and Spock didn't until later. I'd ask how you can seriously say that DSC was "especially" reliant on Spock when he only appeared in half the season. Obviously they aren't needed considering that the majority of episodes existed without them. Even though Pike was featured in most of the season and was a great character, he still acted as more of an observer to stories that revolved around DSC's existing main characters.
