I think having too many series at once is gonna have cause late 90s style franchise fatigue

Why wouldn't they just greenlight a dedicated Enterprise series? CBS is a multi-billion-dollar company.

Preaching to the choir. Nonetheless. It's not too late for them to switch gears on other ideas that haven't been greenlighted yet. We don't need Starfleet Academy, Section 31 can always wait, and Kurtzman says the fans have been heard.

Counterproposal: three episodes having four quarters, with a halftime performance by hologram Lady Gaga.
They're not going to follow 2 separate ships in 1 show, especially in 2 different centuries.

Lady Gaga is the only thing that could make me a weekly viewer of STD.

Fatigue comes from late 90s Star Trek sameness as it went back to the same the over and over, IMO. Yeah, i got bored in the 90s with two Berman series on the air and little more else to watch in the scifi arena. Today I watch a hundred shows a year and I'm not fatigued in the least. I don't see a problem if the show are actually different takes on the Franchise.

Maybe something to come in after Section 31 next year, so we'd have a live action episode for every week of the year, all different. I wouldn't be bored with that.

"But all these series!" Until they're green-lighted and actually start filming, plans can change at any moment. They can run through a whole list of series they want to do. Until they're approved, it means jack shit. How's that Khan mini-series doing? Whatever they have planned for their slate, they can change to make room for a Pike Series.

I'd like to say I want a Pike Series because I can't wait to see a Pike Series. And that's still partially true. But, unfortunately, I also want it for one of the same reasons I want the Picard Series. The "We want a Pike Series instead!" crowd are the new "We want the 24th Century back!" crowd. There's demand for a "TOS" show, demand for a "TNG" show, and demand for a "Future" show. Between these three series, you cover your major bases, and people who don't like Discovery might finally have more incentive to leave it alone. The rest is just extra. No matter how much or how little I'm looking forward to each individual one.

More to the point: I'm not planning on watching all these series. If we have all of them. No one's holding a gun to my head and forcing me to watch them all. Pick and choose. No doubt CBSAA will be looking at which series subscribers respond to more favorably. Right now, it's wide open. But eventually it'll narrow down as they figure out what works for them and what doesn't.

I myself don't really 'want' any particular Star Trek series, or any series really, except maybe that Dumarest of Terra series I heard was gestating in Europe over the past few years, or some the books or comics that i enjoyed as a kid and always wanted to see visualized. But Trek? Just give me something that engages me and I'll watch it and keep watching. As long as it assumes there are adults watching who don't need to be lectured, it will have me as a viewer.

Unless they can properly tie the two together, I don't think it would really work.

As long as it has Riker playing Poker Face on his trombone, count me in.

There's zero possibility of that not happening. I just hope we get 2 years of good Trekspam before it all goes to hell:techman:

Yeah, no. I don't think people who feel that Discovery might benefit from rushing along a little less (me among them) and giving the characters more quiet moments will delight in taking the 12-14 episodes they have, and have two crews share that.

Not to mention that while I'd watch an Enterprise show with Pike, I don't want it to steal time from the show and characters I'm already invested in.

Didn't you know Lady Gaga was in TOS? She has a music video with Shatner.

On the general idea of splitting season 3 into two halves, or two story arcs, I don't think is a bad idea. The Expanse has done this with success. In the case of Discovery, you could have six or seven episodes for one story arc, and seven for another (depending on the number of episodes ordered). It would almost be like having two seasons in one.
... Although I'd want both story arcs to be centered around Discovery, and not one focused solely on the Enterprise. The show is named 'Discovery' for a reason :).

Disagree. With seasons being a mere fraction of the length they once were, and the landscape of streaming television being utterly different, I think there's less of a chance of that.

Also, one of the shows isn't Voyager, so we've got that going for it. :-D

Lack of quality control led to franchise fatigue more than anything. Creative people need breaks too, and when you have the same people doing the same thing for years, they're going to run out of steam, and they need to be periodically replaced.
If you deliver a consistently good product, people are going to want it.
