I...don't hate this?
The worst part is obviously Sonic. I get that they can't do giant corneas or anything but not even some white fur between and around the eyes to replicate it? Funky proportions that look like something from the depths of DeviantArt? That's not Sonic.

also bonus points for anyone who knows (I see you, you Googling cheaters) who voiced Sonic in the 1990s cartoon.
"Let's use a gangsta-rap song from 1996 in the trailer for this family/kids movie." - Someone living in 2019, apparently.
It could have worked maybe if the movie was taking place in 1990s, but I checked. Outside of the Crown Vic, everything else is modern (Suburbans, computer displays, army uniforms, and lastly mobile phones). So yeah, this movie definitely is taking place in "modern day"

Even though I didn't hate the trailer, I do find the design for Sonic really strange, they anthropomorphized him way to much. It wouldn't have been that hard to just translate what we got in every other version into a more realistic version, just look at what Detective Pikachu did with the Pokemon. If they can make a realistic Mr. fucking Mime work, then it should have been possible to do a more games/cartoons accurate Sonic. If this does get more movies, which I admit is very doubtful, I'm terrified what they are going to do with characters like Tails, Knuckles, or Amy.
Detective Pikachu took the original design and gave them details and depth. Every single one is immediately recognizable, which either ends up making them adorable or creepy in some cases.
Sonic is supposed to be an alien, the trailer even implies he isn’t from our planet. He could use the original or the current game design and pass it off as him being an alien. They could even make jokes about it. But no, now we’ll all be rooting for Robotnik hunting down this abomination.

Mobius is an alternate world. Sonic X (the anime) is based around him coming to Earth for a while. The UK Fleetway comics had Amy and Tekno universe hopping for a series, they ended up attracting the Earth militaries attention before going home.

Part of of me wanted to see the movie just for Michael Hogan, then i saw the rest of the trailer and I thought to myself 'maybe not'
That was far superior to the the actual trailer.
