THE ORVILLE S2, E14: "THE ROAD NOT TAKEN"

Well with some of these things you just got to go with alternate universe logic where even if something is very different all your main characters are almost always fated to still be in each others lives due to the point of seeing altered version of your regulars is kind of the big selling point of these stories.
If anything, it's a lot more plausible in this case than it is in all of the DS9 mirror universe stories, where the timelines diverged centuries ago, yet somehow all of the same people end up together. Between the fact that the timelines only diverged seven years ago and the fact that Kelly knew about the Prime Universe and went out to find everybody, this makes more sense.

There were some parts that didn't make too much sense. Everything I noticed has already been mentioned. But I thoroughly enjoyed the episode--loved the character moments and the pacing of the story. Weird blackhole physics and intact orville aside, what a great way to end the season---it would be a shame if the series doesn't return.

Which was magically intact and the Kaylon's for some reason left there but removed all live, include the fish, and traces of life.

The Orville was on crash dive when the crew abandoned ship and would have the union version of structural integrity fields to keep her intact combied with going into the ocean (which makes being intact more credible than Voyager hitting land at full impulse :p).

The kaylon probably thought she was doomed and not worth wasting time an energy on.

As for no life on earth wouldn't have been too hard for the kaylon to do. nuclear winter, poison the atmosphere, radiation, goodbye life on earth in a 6month period.

Though the sea wouldn't be blue though because the all the rotting former marine life.

I?m still troubled over why Young Kelly, returned from 7 years in the future, with full knowledge of Isaac being a mole and a recent, devastating attack by the Kaylons, did nothing to warn Union Command about it. Surely they have the tech to determine her truthfulness and not dismiss her claims as delusions.

So the galaxy fell because she didn't bother reporting this intel. That's not a little oops that can be overlooked (by us the viewers).
Now that you bring it up, this is probably the thing that bothers me the most.

DoppelKelly seems to know who the Kaylon are, so they were a known entity even seven years in the past, and even if she doesn't know all the details, she knows that they're a hostile power pretending to be otherwise. And NOT passing that information along is totally out of character.

I can only think of two explanations:

1) She tried, but nobody believed her. Everyone knows time travel is impossible; plus, Union leadership might have wanted to see the Kaylon as a potential ally against the Krill, and as we've already seen from their relationship with the Moclans, Union policy is driven by a fair amount of what Simon and Garfunkel would describe as "a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest." She may have tried, been brushed off, and realized that if she persisted, they STILL wouldn't believe her, and also her career would be toast and she wouldn't be in a position to act later on.

2) Although her beta-whatever deficiency kept Claire's memory wipe from working as intended, it did have SOME effect. Some information about the future stayed with her, and some was pushed beyond her ability to consciously remember. While she could remember the people she met and the fact that things didn't work out with Ed, the dinner where he told her the Kaylon story was not one of the memories she was able to access ... until the Kaylon attacked, at which point it started to feel naggingly familiar. There could be a whole interesting story in an on-the-run Kelly trying to find a hypnotist or alien shaman to help her recover the memory, or the feeling that things weren't right could have caused her to seek out Claire, who figured out how to unlock the memory.

I prefer the second one, but either seems plausible.

She didn't reveal her knowledge of the future and for all she knew the Union survived the initial Kaylon onslaught. She wasn't aware that it was only Isaac's relationship with the doctor that prevented the Kaylon from winning nor did she realize that the only reason Claire came on board was because of Ed. It wasn't until after the timeline shifted so radically that she understood her error.

I enjoyed it a lot. I really want a third season, but at least there was no cliffhanger. Still, if we don't get a third season, I'd love to see a movie like what NBC did with Timeless.

The Isaac stuff is immaterial if she knows that a major power is playing nice while contemplating an attack.
I would agree, especially as she has already chosen to change the future. But that is a different argument as it wasn't an error on the part of the writing team--it was a character's choice.

We rewatched this one this evening. Knowing what to expect this time, I was completely charmed by it. The people in this show are, strangely, very dear.

If it does not come back, I'll be sorry. It's the only episodic TV show now that I completely enjoy. Up there near the original Star Trek.

And if this is the final episode, it will be one of the best skiffy series finales I can remember.

The Kaylon were very thorough.... Except for that one Moclan life sign on the starship at the bottom of the ocean.

"That one moclan on the starship at the bottom of the ocean" makes for a pretty cool title, by the way. Maybe for a love song :D

I wonder if Moclans have Folk music. If so, it probably sounds like that noise in the night club. :rommie:

Great season. Hoping for a 3rd one but I'm preparing for disappointment. One thing I disliked in the latter half of the season is the way Isaac virtually vanished after his betrayal. Nothing truly came of it in regards to his interactions with the crew. Nice to see Alara again. Please renew this show!

Well, Bortus's porn addiction started because of Klyden's being against keeping Topsy female. Bortus on felt that way because oh John and Gordon having him watch the stop-motion Rudolph movie. (Norris was for the operation at first.)

But, without Gordon there....
