THE ORVILLE S2, E14: "THE ROAD NOT TAKEN"

Oh yeah, been there. And the DVR isn't perfect either. I still got to see the end, but the recording skipped a couple of minutes during the climax.
True. We tried to use the DVR feature on Hulu Plus a couple of times, and it liked to skip and freeze. Honestly, I was kind of okay with not keeping Hulu Plus because the guide is just a mess for me. They say it's great, but I find it slow and confusing at times.

So, I let the show play in the background again...stayed up for it. I managed to get to the one commercial break that I hung on for awhile before. It hung for me again, but eventually I got through it.

Right around when Ed was opening up a bottle at the bar on The Orville, a thing came up on the bottom (even though there were like 13 more minutes on the guest pass!) saying Gotham was going to start in 30 seconds. There was no way to stop it. I paused, and The Orville teed up again with no progress bar.

I give up. It doesn't seem like I'm missing much.

Edit: In past episodes, I haven't been able to use the progress bar for a short period of time close to broadcast. I think Fox does this to ensure that no one actually skips ahead while the show is in live broadcast in order to spoiler the ending for everyone else. But it seems like whoever's job it was to fix this was asleep at the wheel.
Argh!

I really feel for you. The first time a commercial wiped you out, and the second time it was the same countdown that wiped me out. They should allow for canceling that timer, because some people don't want to jump straight to the next show, and they also need to account for when it fires up too soon. Seriously, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, even CBS All Access allows for you to click away the countdown timer so you can see the rest of a show, or the credits.

Talia was only on the Orville at Ed's insistence of having another Xelayan security officer when Alara left, a lot of "just happened to..." would need to occur for Talia to end up on the Orville too from whomever got the ship instead of Ed.
Maybe there aren't that many Xelayans in the Union fleet, but Alara was so good that just about any captain would react that way?

She is good to have around on away missions, too. I mean, who suspects the diminutive, quiet officer of being the head of security and capable of ripping your legs off of you and beating you with them?

Maybe if it is cancelled, a letter-writing campaign might change their minds. I remember that happening with some science fiction show once.
A popular thing to do right now is to send the executives at FOX a jar of pickles with #RenewOrville on it.

To hell with it. I just liked the hell out of that episode. Whatever it misses by not being staunchly scientific fiction, it MORE than makes up for by hitting all the right emotional beats. For example, I KNEW Bortus was going to be down there... & it was still awesome. I didn't see Alara coming & that was awesome too. About the only thing it might be missing is one of MacFarlane's gratuitous high profile celebrity cameos, & I'm fine with there being less of that, as they find there feet. I'd be pretty sad if they didn't get a renew. I also worry that this got whooped by the NFL draft... as huge a BORE as that is

Fox.com is driving me nuts. Fucking FOX, not treating their sci-fi shows well all those decades.

Trying it again on the apple tv.

Again, I love it when I read the posts and they still tell me nothing.

Shame they didn’t have one of those silly time suits from Discovery. Would have made things so much easier.

All throughout the episode I kept asking myself what took Kelly 7 years to fix her mistake? Why did they wait till the Kaylons attacked to actually do something. Because of that I couldn't get into this episode at all. I did like seeing Alara though, and there were some nice battle sequences, but I felt this episode could have been more tightly written.

I do hope the show comes back for the 3rd season though.

So the Kaylon in the opening scene graduated from Imperial Storm Trooper marksmanship training?

I like the characters enough to have enjoyed the episode in the moment but I’ll brook no attempt to argue The Orville is at the science part of science fiction than DSC, or any other Trek, when it comes to time travel stories. That dog don’t hunt.

Wow - given how much Seth aped elements of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (including action beats and design and the music) for this ep. - I figured all the TNG fans would be up in arms about those aspects of the episode's execution. :)

It was actually an episode of "The Orville" I liked a lot - and I loved the return of Alara. :)

As soon as they went down to the planet and LaMarr asked to see the lieutenant I knew it was Alara. The episode was pretty predictable but I really enjoyed. The score as usual was great.

I see people talk about changed history, Kalons winning, and Isaac somehow remembering the original history. So this is basically Orville's version of "Yesterday's Enterprise". Could be great.

Not great, but pretty damn good. Having Kelly as the character that remembers the original timeline was kind of obvious in retrospect, and made more sense than Isaac or Guinan.

Another YE parallel was return of the former security officer character (Alara/Tasha).

No opening credits sequence again. I guess this is permanent (assuming the show continues). Hopefully it means more episode content than commercials.

The time travel device is sounding more and more like a Star Trek magic device (e.g. Red Angel suit), seems to be able to send someone back in time to any place and any time period.

Loved the Yaphit opening the door scene, kind of reminded me of C3PO and R2D2 knocking on Jabba's door in RoTJ

The Twinkie bit was funny

Easy. Kelly probably had no reason to do so until nine months earlier... By then, it was too late for her to do anything. They never stated her rank or position when hell broke out...

Same here

I really like LaMarr but was J. Lee even less energetic than normal? It almost seemed at times he was reading his lines..........

Halfway through it. Maybe the best episode so far. Some subtle classic Star Wars references that I don't hate... the booming orchestra, asteroid field, "Han solo" attire, Yaphid sticking his head out the base door ala Return Of The Jedi when C3PO & R2D2 knock on Jabba's door. <3

Also caught what I think was a Firefly reference, the "Scavengers will cut off our skin and wear it like a suit"... the "Reavers" I think they were called, if memory serves.

Yes it was like a fan film script with a great budget and VFX were the star of the show this week. The music had a huge TSFS vibe to me. Kaylon are not very good marksmen either for robots.......
