THE ORVILLE S2, E13: "TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW"

Very well done.

I can't wait to see how this effects the timeline. They could go anywhere with this.

It has been a while, but I seem to remember Halsey and Mercer talking about the Orville as if it one of the ships that subpar Captains get to command. If Kelly Grayson wasn't a subpar officer, she wouldn't have gotten the Orville in a timeline without marrying Ed.

I'll only speak for me, but this has to end in fixing the timeline. I don't want to invest time into characters, plots, events, only to have it all be pointless because of a [permanent or long] timeline reset.

Furthermore, I have a feelings it's be a soft change, that is, even a slight change like Kelly being in charge is like the buttery fly flapping it's wings; things that have happened should be very very different, down to even potentially the Krill helping them against the Kaylon not having succeeded. So, only enough to deal with in the course of the series finale (yeah, until we hear an official announcement on a third season, I'm calling it this) episode or one or two more if the show comes back.

Fairly standard "time travel" plot but done well. I liked the younger Kelly being disappointed in her older self. My guess is that the "mind wipe" didn't take and she consciously didn't date Ed to avoid those pitfalls. I can see Ed and Gordon ending up flying some crappy shuttle because of this. Should be interesting.

BTW, at the beginning of this thread there was discussion about Scott Grimes and "what has he done\whi is he?" Besides being Steve on American Dad for like the last 100 years and crushing it, he also played Sgt. Marlarky on Band of Brothers and was excellent as a straight, dramatic actor.

Haven't read the whole thread yet - anybody else notice that one of the video game monsters was the same skull-headed one in Worf's combat program that he played with K'ehlyr?

I don't know if it was the exact same design, but I do remember thinking it looked similar.
This one was pretty good, not necessarily one of their best, but still good. Throwing past Kelly into the mix while Ed was still trying to convince present Kelly to get back together with him was a fun addition to the story. Seeing how different she was from present Kelly was interesting. I can see where marrying Ed, getting divorced and then becoming his first officer could bring out some the kind of changes we saw.
Yaphit and Bortus and Klyden dancing at the simulated night club was hilarious.
The ending was definitely not what I expected, I'm very curious to see why she turned Ed down, and what kind of effect it has on the present.

.

I'm not so sure... Ed was on the up and up until the divorce. So, without catching Kelly' s infidelity, Mercer could actually be in charge of a heavy cruiser or maybe even an admiral. What if we end up with Admiral Mercer and Captain Halsey or Captain Ted Danson in charge of the Orville?

Hell, if we're going to change things up, Captain Yaphet

Not exactly. Halsey tells Ed "you're nobody's first choice for this assignment" and that he's mainly getting a command due to there being more ships than qualified captains. But there's nothing about the Orville being a dumping ground for unwanted captains.

Good point.
Maybe he becomes Fleet Admiral, starts a war with the Krill and loses, human race wiped out.
Boom! Human race dead because of Kelly not wanting to hurt Ed's feelings or go thru a messy divorce.

This was a nice thoughtful episode. Got you thinking about life and choices. Very reflective. I'd give it 7.5. Have to see how things go in the next part. The downsides are that this is a totally typical TNG episode. Complete with the extreme technobabble. We'll TECH the TECH to return Kelly even though we said we couldn't before because of the TECH.

While the end suggests that the timeline will change, we've seen that in TNG as well. Yesterday's Enterprise. First Contact. Fixing it becomes the plot point for the next episode.

Also, having Bortus and Klyden dancing was like the previous episode never happened. Typical 90s episodic TV move!

Really, Ed, the notion of the captain having a relationship with his first officer is just not going to work. Kelly is right on this one. But then he follows dumb with more dumb by dating younger Kelly. Bad judgement.

I did wonder if the TECH in this episode would be used to help Gordon meet his love back in time? Could be why they never had him research the real her to leave that open. We'll probably never know.

I've actually wondered why each episode needs its own thread, never mind a dedicated subforum for the show. Other series in here make do with a single long "Season __" thread. Of course, I guess the answer to "why" is because Dennis starts 'em. :p
He's also afraid to include rating polls in them for some reason.

I'm not sure what Klydon and Bortus dancing like the previous episode never happened, typical 90's television means.

The show isn't called Bortus and Klydon in Space, they are married, married adults have issues and sometimes problems, sometimes big problems, adults, probably from the 90's move past and work out differences.
Since the show isn't called Bortus and Klydon in Space, is it possible they are getting counseling, worked out their problem, or have already moved past that problem.
Unlike Shows today, we don't have to see endless information about the fictional characters to make them seem real.
We don't need an episode of Bortus and Klydon figuring out where their relationship is going and how they will raise their child and if they each find the other sexy and watch them have sex either.

Like 90's television it is very refreshing to watch a show where you can tune in every so often and watch a show without having to dedicate one's life to the storyline of the myriad characters.

It means that the events of the previous episode are forgotten--as if they never happened. Things were left in a very bad state in the previous episode between them, but here they are fine. Very 90s episodic TV. Even TNG had Picard recovering after Best of Both Worlds!

But, I do agree we don't need to dig into their lives more. That's been an overdone, tedious aspect of this series. I wish we had less of their dysfunctional relationship before, which fixes that problem and also fixes the dancing scene!

I get it, but like I said, we don't need to see what Bortus and Klydon did to fix the relationship. 1. It doesn't matter. 2. They are secondary characters.
To me, when I saw it, I thought" good, they fixed their issue, and we are done with it."
I don't need to Game of Thrones, Walking Dead it over the next 32 episodes.

Also Picard getting over the Borg was a main character that also had implications into the next series of Deep Space Nine.
And I thank God that we didn't have to see Troi moping around after the loss of The Child.
Not that losing a child isn't terrible, but that's not why I watch sci-phi.
