do you think it's wise for the producers of the picard show to keep the details so close to the vest

Given what happened with Discovery from the moment anything was released, I would think playing things close to their vest for the time being is a very good idea.

How are they "engaging from a hollywood behind-the-scenes perspective"? There's no engagement there. In order to engage, you have to do more than make shit up and then pretend you never said it when you make more shit up for your next video. According to Mirror's Edge, Discovery was cancelled two years ago, and has been cancelled about every two to three months since then. Why would you possibly believe that this time they've actually got some sort of facts or evidence to back up their claims when everything else has been wrong?

Sure, they have a right to say it. At the same time, we have a right to point out that they're utterly delusional, so wrapped up in hatred of post-90s Trek and a desire for clicks that they're about as reliable as the Iraqi information minister. We can say the same thing about people who insist on treating them as having actual inside information despite all the evidence to the contrary.

Can someone make a YT video on this point so we can stop hearing the same repeated talking points that have been demonstrated to be false?

Well, the less they say, the less there is to throw stones at. I have no doubt it'll be an incredible show, but people are quick to rush to judgment when info is released. It might be safe to say that the fanbase will never be more united about the Picard series than it is right now (even/especially with the misinformation that's out there).

I imagine the producers fear revealing the Picard series is actually set in the alternative universe "prime" timeline with Kelvin/Discovery aesthetics rather than TNG and it really being an alternative version of Picard to all intents and purposes will turn off fan interest. So want this kept secret until the Comic-Con trailer comes out.

CBS doesn't care about any of that. They're just making a vanity project for Patrick Stewart and making some extra $$ for themselves.

None of this makes any sense. Stop listening to Midnight's Dredge. They just make things up for clicks. After all, they've been spelling certain doom for Trek for how long now?

The Picard Show has the same production designers as Discovery, so it's gonna look similar. They'll likely reuse some of the same sets when Federation ships are involved (I'm sure flying Sir Patrick up north is cheaper than building another massive starship set)

I hope they update the look of TNG quite substantially.

It probably won't look all that different from DSC.

    It doesn't.

CBS isn't going to make decisions based on merchandising, because the merchandising end of Trek is not big enough to make that compelling.

I kind of myself prefer to follow science fiction series which aren't beholden to trends in toy sales.

Everything is probably being picked apart by the studio to decide what needs to be changed to create merchandising options, rather than focusing on making the actual show, so until it's fit into the "milk viewers for every penny we can" mould then they won't be releasing too much information. Though I could just be more cynical as I get older.

I don't know about Midnight's Edge, but it seems commonsense that the Picard Show will be in the same style as Discovery and not fit into the TNG era or be recognisable as such and be filled with the same annoying, obnoxious Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Clueless type characters Discovery has. Picard or some of the characters will likely use expletives just to demonstrate just how "different" it is from original TNG.

Visual style is up in the air, but they have repeatedly stated it will be different from Discovery story content wise & tone wise.

Here’s what I will tell you,” said Kurtzman. “I had an amazing experience yesterday. I sat at Patrick [Stewart]’s kitchen table and I heard him read the first episode and I almost cried. It was quite something. He’s at an amazing place in his life. He’s so excited. It’s going to be a very different show from Discovery. The only way this universe, I think, works correctly is if each show is really different and speaks to a different part of Star Trek.” Kurtzman explained that the Picard show is going to be “a very thoughtful, psychological portrait in a lot of ways.”

Visually, I hope it is more of an updated, refined style that has ties to TNG. Sort of how the TOS movies built on the TV show.

Television has changed in the past 30 years, and Star Trek with it. I seriously doubt the Picard Show will bring back the shooting style and characterisations of TNG.

And fwiw, I like the Discovery characters.
