Even if, for some reason, your world still needs solar panels in an era of fusion and antimatter-matter generators, it would make far more sense to just have solar power farms in orbit. They've been studying that since the 70's and it's almost economically feasabble now. I think it was just a feel good thing. It's fine. I'll just say in my head they were the Super Science Generators that keep San Francisco seismically stable in the future.

Well, that was the by-now traditional Discovery experience of AWESOME HIGH POINTS mixed with total trainwreck moments. This show truly is a hot mess, and I love/hate it. It's super frustrating, and I'll probably have watched the whole series twice more before next season starts.

The writers continue to be remarkably, embarrassingly bad at basic story plotting. When Leland is loose on Discovery, why do they remain so focused on traveing to the future? That won't help if he comes with them! Then once Leland is killed, why don't they stop and stay in that time? There's nothing to flee from anymore! And after full episodes of story have been spun out of how Tyler can NEVER show his face in front of any Klingon ever again, he's just hanging out on the Klingon bridge with L'Rell! The Culber reversal on Stamets is completely unearned and undeveloped. I could go on.

From a basic craft standpoint, it's such shoddy work. The mistakes are all so obvious, and they have persisted in the same fashion through multiple writing regimes. I don't understand why this is so impossible to get right.

Meanwhile, pretty much everything else is great! The cast continues to excel, Ethan Peck and SMG played the hell out of that good-bye, overwritten as it was (the writers are under the mistaken impression that the actors need way more words than they actually do). Everyone else I already knew to be good, but it was great to see Rebecca Romijn finally get an opportunity to shine in that Number One role. There was such fun surprise in the appearance of the Klingons and the Kelpiens. The editing on this show has always been their secret weapon -- the cross-cutting between all the fronts of the battle was so tight and expertly done. Without such highly skilled edtiors, they'd really be lost... as stunned as I can be with the bad plotting, I'm often equally as impressed with how they mitigate that with exceptionally clear, precise, smooth editing.

Anyway, that was fun. Can't wait for season 3, which I fully expect to be another improbably enjoyable hot mess. I wonder which producers will get fired in the middle of that season! You could almost start a pool...

* Once again, the Enterprise bridge is just gorgeous.
* "Can you do it in half the time?" "You mean violate the basic laws of physics? Uh, no."
* Saru showing his ability to lead. He will make a fantastic Captain.
* Blue phasers and the TOS Enteprise sound effects to go with them. ♥
* "He means in case one of us gets dead along the way." "Get off my ass... Get off my ass, sir. " Reno keeps killing it. Seriously.
* The shuttles running as cover when Burnham launches from the shuttle bay is well executed.
* The torpedo of fate makes its case.
* HOLY FUCKBALLS, THE KLINGONS HAVE ARRIVED! And I have never been so glad to see them!
* The juxtaposition of the Kelpians having once been a prey species being excellent fighters is well done.
* "I realized you're my home." Yeah, Hugh and Paul, that whole scene just... I didn't cry, YOU cried. You cried a lot, and maybe snotted just a bit.
* As far as I'm concerned, they have done a fine job connecting the signals, and events of this season to this point.
* Klingon D7s? Harsh and fast orders uttered in gutteral Klingon? Blood lust and the acknowledgement that today is a good day to die? Oh ho ho, the Klingons are BACK baby!
* The final exchange between Michael and Spock right before the final run was perfect.
* SOMEBODY OWES TILLY A BEER! (I'll buy it. I love you, Tilly.)
* Michael and Discovery's final run sequence is EPIC AS FUCK. Beautifully done. That is a right and proper sendoff.
* Georgiou's plan to kill off the CONTROL nanobots was well executed (lulz). Also, she's won me over. So she can't die now, she's not allowed.
* Why hello there, Mr. Spock, or should I call you Lieutenant Sexy?
* The closing theme of Discovery and TOS mixed together was brilliant. Loved it.

GOOD
* I like the idea and execution of the repair bots. It only makes sense on a starship out in the middle of nowhere.
* The leap of faith moment between Michael and Spock was a nice touch on their healed relationship.
* I'd like to see more of the Naan / Georgiou partnership, because it is awesome.
* Regarding the durability of the suit, that's some solid last minute work done by the Starfleet engineers. Science rules.
* Temporal Causality gives me a headache, but it works well to serve the story here.
* Gravity has a painful way of reminding us it exists, especially in pointy hallways.
* A sad but well played ending for Admiral Cornwell. She certainly earned my respect for her sacrifice.
* Looks like we get the reasons why no one speaks of Discovery, or the Spore Drive, and why Section 31 goes into hiding. A bit pat, but still well done, IMO.
* Signal 7 now confirmed, so next season we'll get to see just where they've gone. Should be interesting.
* If there's not a Captain Pike series after all of this, I'm going to write a strongly worded letter to some CBS executive who will never read it.

What else can I say? I was hooked from the first second to the very last. If they wanted me to come back for a 3rd season, well I'm coming back for it. I have to know what happens from here, and what we're seeing on the road ahead. I think Discovery has found its footing. This episode gets a Genuine 10 from me. No question.

Speaking as a huge fan of the series, there is absolutely nothing in your post that I disagree with. Well articulated.

Regarding the 7th signal, Burnham created that one so Spock and others know Discovery arrived in their destination safely. But if Discovery is now 900+ years into future, how is it that the Enterprise crew can see the signal? Is the signal visible in all time frames, or travels back in time? Or did Burnham come back to 23rd century just to send the signal and then went back?
