It's not really about the specific number of years. It's about the ability to set up a new galactic arrangement of powers and what not. It allows for freedom to tell stories and not be hemmed in by canon issues. Before the premise behind Discovery was announced, I thought they were going with post Nemesis series for these reasons. This is effectively the same thing. I was surprised Discovery was going to be a prequel, although if I had to set it at some pre-Nemesis time, they did what I would've done.

I think it's a good thing. Now they can do whatever they want to story wise. Eliminates most of the canon baggage.
I like canon baggage.
It get's me where I wanna go with Trek with all my memories packed safely away for the trip.

On the positive side, the Enterprise bridge -- and the science station in particular -- looked great at the end. Glad Spock's scope and whirly screen were there.

It also looked like they may have toned down the tacky saucer lights.

Well, that's why when I said I would have picked the same prequel timeframe that they did--because I love the TOS era. So, yeah! Hopefully we get a Pike series then

But, I'm also all for moving forward into new settings and new story possibilities.

Hopefully we can have our cake and eat it too with Discovery in the future and Pike in the 23rd century.

Wha t a weird ending. I thought when I went online CBS would have announced, and all of Mount 's earlier comments would have been smokescreen to cover for a new series in the works. Or that DSC was shifting gears to be about the big E. To not have any reference or cliffhanger scen e with DSC in its future setting? Weird.

The battle scene s were too visually messy. Did like the blue solid phaser beams instead of pew pews.

Weird ending if DSC's crew is really the main crew of this series!

I liked the finale overall, but the urgency shown in the first act with putting together the suit is ridiculous considering they spent half the episode last week saying goodbye.

And if Tyler could get help, why didn't Sarek pull the Federation fleet?

I suspect someone really love spacewalks, because Burnham should have just been in the and got off at the asteroid.

I would just like a season where the same Executive Producer starts and ends the season, because it feels pretty obvious to be that there was a clear shift in story.

Like how did Burnham manage to disable the Ba'ul ship all by herself? (They conveniently glossed over that.)

It's very sloppy but I'm looking forward to a clean slate Season 3.
