Captain Pike spin off petition

I was thinking the other night about this -- as one who desperately wants a Pike series does.

It's come up a few times regarding how this hypothetical show would draw to a conclusion with Pike handing the Enterprise over to Kirk. I wonder if in the prime timeline, the way Kirk comes to command the Enterprise is similar to what we saw in the Kelvin timeline. Does the Enterprise eventually reach the point where all the crewmembers are in place, except for Kirk, and some large scale event happens that puts Kirk in the chair?

The obvious difference in this case being Kirk is not just a cadet who would be swept up to captain so quickly like he did in the 2009 film. Also, the event in question wouldn't be some sort of prime timeline equivalent of a madman coming through time changing events.

Just fun to think about.

The WNMHGB crew at least. So no Uhura or McCoy. And Sulu is still in Physics. Since this would be the Series Finale/pilot for TOS 2.0, I'm sure an appropriately epic event would take place.

Agreed - would be sweet to see, none the less!

Honestly, I wouldn't care if the entire Discovery show is canceled and replaced by an Enterprise series with Pike, Spock and Number One. Pike straightened out the show, probably better than the writers imagined.

Agree with new showrunner n writers who better understand ST. Would be fantastic

I really don't want to see more of the classic TOS characters. I'm game for the Pike show, but one thing I absolutely don't want this to lead to, is some sort of a reboot or a remake of Kirk's five year mission.

For crew, he still has another 5 year mission time wise to go one, so after said 5 year mission, the Enterprise goes in for a refit ( Like the aircraft carriers, they out for 5 years, and come back and in dock for 6 months to a year to replace stuff)
After his mission, he could get promoted like kirk did in Tmp, and have to give up the enterprise, and maybe picked Kirk. as for the rest of the crew, they could have transfered out to other ships, retired, etc. Spock staying on after promotion to Lt Cmd and being first officer. #1 gets promoted to captiain, other crew shuffle out to other assignments or stay..
You could intoduce the caricters, Put scotty in engineering on year 3 of the 5 year trip, Sulu in biology, Uhura as a beta or gamma shift communcations, just background,

We should have vote who wants pike show or disc to go on ,love to see how the vote goes , me i want pike all day long

The only thing that puts me off an Enterprise series is having to watch tv while wearing sunglasses. I can’t take that bridge...

I made these for fun today. I have to imagine that a Pike series would use the same font type and design as seen in THE CAGE.

I like the idea of a Pike series, but I wouldn't create it at the expense of Discovery. If I had to pick a new CBS All Access show that I had to replace with a Pike series, I think it would probably be the proposed "Lower Decks." The Lower Decks concept, like the Section 31 concept, could be very good or very bad depending upon how it is handled. Section 31 (for good or ill) would seem to have more meat than a lower decks show.
Lower Decks: TNG
Ensign Nobody: "What did you do today?"
Ensign Meaningless: "I fixed four replicators"
Nobody: "Wow. I had to mop up the holodeck AGAIN after Riker was in there!!!"
Meaningless: "Did you hear that we met some group called the Pakleds today? Apparently Geordie was kidnapped and Riker had to get in their faces..."
Nobody: "So that's why Geordie wasn't in his office when I went to return the mop!"

Considering all the retcons Discovery has done so far, I'd expect the TOS crew to be introduced in their TOS proper roles (a la ST'09), and odd things like Yellow Spock, Yellow Uhura and Blue Sulu are on the trash pile next to lasers, time warp factors, Romulan cloaking devices and recrystalising Dilithium.

I don't know why this didn't occur to me before, and I'm sure that it's been mentioned already but...there's no reason that a Pike series would have to be set after the events in Discovery.

Without straining credulity too much regarding the actors' apparent ages, it could be set at the beginning a few years before "current" events. If they felt the need to address Pike and Spock's absence at some point, that could be done over the course of one or two episodes a season or two into the show - none of these shows really takes place in constant "real time" anyway. Given episodes of just about any Trek series vary from occupying a few hours to (in extreme cases) weeks or months of the characters' experiences.

If STD has established that the Enterprise was kept away from the Klingon war and that this frustrated the crew - so much the better. That's front-loaded story material at some point during the series.

They're not really butting up against an arbitrary "expiration season" for Pike.
