I really didn't enjoy this episode that much overall. I'm rating it a 7.

There were good elements of it of course. I'm not immune to the fanwank of seeing the Enterprise. And the script had a lot of nice character moments that I enjoyed - elements I'm guessing were due to Michelle Paradise. I also liked for the first time in the past three episodes Control was largely off camera, allowing us to deal with the characters directly and not focus on the silly threat.

That said...my god the arc is ending in a contrived manner. There's very clearly an endpoint they wish to get to, and everyone is doing what they are not because it makes sense in a manner rooted in their character, but because they either are or are not going to be in Season 3 of Discovery. So all of the main cast just decide to follow Michael into the future and abandon their families...just because. Except Tyler, who loves her, but apparently can't leave because he's needed for the Section 31 spinoff??? I'm not even getting into the technobabble in this episode. It was very, very hard for my disbelief to be suspended because it's pretty transparent they're no longer even really interested in finishing up the story for this season, just teeing up the story for next season. The character moments also, while nice, were kinda turned up to 11 to the point of melodrama in parts - like Sarek and Amanda just showing up right in the nick of time before a battle just because they thought it would make a nice scene. Small universe syndrome anyone?

Blargh.

I really can't say anything bad about this episode. The Enterprise sets were shockingly good, the emotional moments with Michael and her parents was touching, and the sequence with everyone abandoning Discovery reminded me a lot of Picard walking the decks the night before the battle in Best of Both Worlds. From a "first watch" gut level reaction, I was impressed. I'm really looking forward to rewatching.

OK .... I spoke too soon.
;)

I liked this one a lot.

At its core, it was probably a 7, but the awesomeness that was the USS Enterprise inside and out, the scene with Sarek and Amanda, and the nice tie in with "Short Treks" boosts it two full points.

This is what an updated Enterprise should look like. They got it right. It's as simple as that. As a TOS fan above anything else, I am pleased to say I am pleased.

Negatives: Tech the tech with the tech to make the suit and crystal work. And, although the scene itself was magnificent, it was a bit odd that Sarek and Amanda just randomly showed up.

Filler episode. Great visuals but lots of empty air. Most of emotional farewells are moot since we know Spock ain’t sticking around on Discovery, and if he isn’t things are not going according to plan, the convoluted plan that it is.
Best part of the episode is Pike acknowledging that that he knows MU exists ;)
4/10

Sarek got a premonition of Michael's stress through their meld connection, that's why he and Amanda showed up.

If they're really going with having Spock on Season 3 in the future, it's arguably a pretty bad idea, because it will take any sort of tension out of the future arc entirely, given we know Discovery (or at least Spock) will eventually find its way home.

What about the promo picture that leaked of Spock in uniform, is that just for publicity, or does to end up on the Enterprise at the end of next week?

It's possible that it was a promo picture made for publicity before Peck grew a beard, that they decided to hold onto for future use. Or maybe there'll be a flashback featuring beardless, blueshirt Spock next episode (maybe with regards to the Red Angel/Signals, specifically that time he went insane).

In the trailer, he's riding in a shuttlecraft, so perhaps Peck doesn't go with Discovery into the third season, and is instead knocked loose. Then we see him months/weeks later on the Enterprise as they are looking for signs of Discovery/Burnham's return.

Dude, its a giant fucking galaxy. Maybe Vulcan is really close, but it seems really, really unlikely that they would be so nearby they could get there at warp 9 in a few hours. This is one of the worst examples (outside of the Kelvin films) of not understanding the scope of the Trekverse and making the universe seem small for a cheap character moment.

Spock could stay on board the Discovery at least through Season 3 and then somehow get back to the 23rd century.
It's a stretch, I know, but I'm kinda-sorta hoping.

Star Trek, from the original series, to TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, and now DSC has always been about traveling at the speed of plot. Always.

Oh lordy, "Plot Speed" has been a staple of Star Trek for decades, you're gonna have an uphill battle with that one.

While I agree that their arrival seemed unlikely, I'll take "cheap character moments" over TEH REELIZM any day.

Judging by the battle that's happening in the next episode, I think somehow Spock gets separated from Discovery. We did see that picture of him in Uniform, which must come from the Season Finale.
Yeah, I saw that too.
Bummer.
