Indeed. Though they almost didn't even come across as being Klingons at all, but some weird sort of high fantasy race. I mean, they were guardians of a mystic temple filled with magic crystals. Trek has taken many trips into the absurd (giant space amoebas, greek gods, etc), but I think this is the most outward use of straight-up fantasy tropes yet.

I am guessing Pike speaks Klingon, or at least can understand it.

As to why the UT chose not to translate at that moment, Trek has never been consistent on this.

IIRC it is always raining on Ferenginar.

No. Here's a picture of her from January.

Mary Chieffo has a very unusual face structure - very bony with wide cheekbones and a large jaw for a woman. When coupled with the makeup, it does make her face look chubby in some shots. But she's pretty clearly around the proper weight for her height, if not a bit skinny.

Thank you

Nothing irks me more than nerds posting on a nerd internet site about an actor's physical shortcomings, weight, etc. I know that might sound harsh...but man it irritates me.

Throwing stones in glass houses more than likely.

I view it about as much fantasy as the Guardian of Forever, and for all I know Boreth and the Guardian's world are both misunderstood relics of the same civilization.

Tyler did say that the monastery was the only 'non-native structure' on Boreth, implying there were other structures not made by Klingons. As far as we know Boreth does not have a native population, so it could be possible these 'native structures' are the remains of an ancient civilisation. Perhaps this civilisation destroyed itself through misuse of the time crystals, leading the klingons to be more cautious and not use them.

Yup - Discovery's crew will be integrated with the Enterprise's and since the titular ship will be missing in action, the show will be renamed Star Trek.
Well, they really did pack the crews in back then...
If Control/The Borg can do the grey goo thing why does it even bother with humanoid bodies, or have the need to assimilate folks by plunging in tubules? In first contact they could have taken over the ship by flooding the plumbing with all of that grey matter that would just crawl up and take over people.
Perhaps that fell out of use because of how easy it was to contain with magnets. It found a more reliable way, but it couldn't do what the unreliable thing could.
Maybe I missed something, but why did they not just jump away at the end? In "New Eden" they jumped some Voyager-distance into the Beta Quadrant! I don't understand why they don't just jump away from the 31 ships and go hide in the corner of the galaxy somewhere.

I thought that too. I know it's about control easily finding them. But they could at least use it as a way to hide long enough for Starfleet to mobilize a fleet against section 31... surely.

4 out of 10. I’m being generous.

So...Discovery can’t just jump to the delta quadrant or something to escape S31, the Secret organisation with at least 31 ships. Pike won’t just leave Starfleet instead of becoming darth Davros like a normal person would. DIS expects us to believe that the USS Discovery is going to be destroyed when we know it won’t be. The Klingon chancellor still can’t speak properly. There were probably more nonsense things I can’t even remember and don’t care about. I really hope there is a big reboot coming although it looks like there wont be. They really need a huge overhaul of everything next season, especially writers.

If they ever tie in the time crystals on Boreth to anything, I hope it's the Prophets. Though the crystals are the wrong color I suppose - green instead of blue.

Does Pike know future Pike would have been in Starfleet? Unless I missed something for all he knows that could've happened while he went off to become an Orion slave trader.

Latif had more unintentional chemistry in that one scene a few episodes back where he got in a fight with Cruz's character than he does with SMG. I don't think there are any two characters in the series who have worse chemistry together. Which is why I don't understand why they continue to force this freaking "relationship" down our throats.

I don't read fanfic, but apparently for Discovery the shippers love fleshing out the real relationships between Stamets/Culber and Sarek/Amanda. They're not writing for Michael/Ash.
To me Trek, including DSC, never does romantic relationships well. Ash/Burnham, Ash/L’Rell, Stamets/Culber. I cringe every time they go to something romantic. It always feels forced. Trek is always much better at fleshing out friendships or just romantic tension. When it gets to a full blown relationship it just doesn’t work.

I think Tilly and Michael have fantastic chemistry. ♥

Eh, I think some of the relationships have been done well. The O'Brien's were a pretty realistic depiction of what being married with kids looks like. I also didn't mind Sisko's relationship with Kasidy in DS9, or Paris/Torres in DS9. Really Trek is good at showing stable relationships which are past the "passionate" phase and have settled into domestic tedium.

Honestly, I briefly thought since Tilly was so underused it would have been a good idea to have Tilly develop a crush on Michael this season. But the problem with that is it would help reinforce the "everyone loves Michael" complaint people had with the first season.

I had the same thought about Tilly developing a crush on Michael. To be honest, I still hope she does. As for the everyone loving Michael thing, I don't worry about it. People who find every fault in the show as a reason to hate it won't change, and so we might as well enjoy it our way.

So, I want a directors cut where, when we have the horror shot of Pike seeing his future self, Future Pike beeps.
