Most Trek after TNG has been kinda crap. (Still better than Stargåte.)
Fair point, though I would take Stargate, and Farscape, and others, over VOY and ENT and a lot of TNG. I certainly did during first run of VOY and ENT, and didn't get in to DS9 until much later. TNG is hit and miss for me as well.

Regardless, all the furor over continuity and canon and timelines, as well as the constant "Gene's Vision" debates, has pretty much illustrated to me that Star Trek has outlasted its usefulness in terms of genre fiction. I see little reason to keep it alive because "Star Trek" happens to be in the title, any more than I want Stargate, or Firefly back. Culture has moved on.

Pike does tend to allow chaos in the bridge and if he kept that lack of discipline up, eventually it would cause damage to his ship, in my opinion. He is a very different captain from others we've seen. Talking back to other previously shown starfleet captains would have been a very bad idea. Not saying he's a bad captain, just different.
He is different from others, I agree. Not only Lorca, but nearly every typical starfleet captain tends to use his crew like a supplement of his ship. Kirk certainly did it. Pike doesn't like to use people like a tool (he is able to do it, but it hurts him), he listens everyone and allows everyone to take the initiative. It takes time to fine-tune a crew, however a result could be great (if a crew is not consist of Connolly/Burnham mix ). I hope "Enterprise" crew interaction would be a proof of advantage this command style.

But was not the Klingon war that almost destroyed great part of the fleet IIRC on the final of the S1???? ... how is this possibly???

Even 200 ships is a big number for a large range fleet... and we only see the Discovery nearby....
7000 ships on Starfleet?? ...some numbers doesn't fit for me.

Now... I've started to feel boring with the all S31 thriller on the show... please go back to blodly explore strange new worlds and new civilizations, where no one has gone before.
they've been going to new places all season, with one brief divergence to Klingon. This has been a very landing-party heavy season.

while i agree with you don't you think you are in a conflict of interest here - having 'redshirt' next to your name?

I totaly agree. I wish the title of Star Trek was not associated with Discovery. I think "Discovery" should of been its own new and unique series without that old Star Trek baggage holding it down.

As I said elsewhere, the problem with the Borg is they are fundamentally a horror concept. There are a lot of elements of creepiness which they tap into, including fear of loss of autonomy/identity, fear of mutilation, etc. But like all horror concepts, they only work well when they aren't clearly explained. Exposition is the death of good horror.

I think the Borg have been used correctly basically three times - Q Who, Best of Both Worlds Part 1, and Enterprise's Regeneration. It's actually shocking how good that episode was, considering that VOY systematically destroyed the race, and ENT did so little that was effective otherwise in Season 2.

An excellent summary of what I've never liked about the Borg past their first few appearances. The initial concept was terrifying, and their transformation into the Big Bad with the charismatic leader was a big shark-jump for me, and why I am troubled that all signs seem to indicate their return. I generally really really enjoy this show, but I am not going to be happy to see them shoehorning some TNG-era fan service into my TOS fan service.

I get your thought behind it, but this would be a quite different show without it being Star Trek.
