Overall, it wasn't the actual Temporal Cold War that was the problem, it was the way it was eventually handled that became the issue.
This is a good point. The Temporal Cold War was something that, at least on paper, had some intrigue to it. It certainly could have lend itself to why the NX-01 crew is not know, if they got lost in time due to the war. But, it was mentioned, and then dropped for a while, then brought back up and did a great job of not making sense. There was never any follow through that made sense, largely because the stakes were unknown, the power players were unknown, and it just fizzled.

(Nazi's invading the USA and so forth)
We never even found out who Future Guy was.

Ironically before Star Trek Beyond came out (and before Leonard Nimoy's death) I joked that the next Kelvin movie after Star Trek Into Darkness would be a remake of "Spock's Brain" called "Spock Prime's Brain". Section 31 would hunt down and kill Spock Prime, and then upload his brain into a computer to access future knowledge. They would then base all their decisions around this computer's predictions: "Save humpback whales. Stay away from the Borg. The being at the center of the galaxy is not God." The Kelvin-timeline Enterprise crew then have to stop Section 31 and bury Spock Prime with dignity.

Obviously this would have been horribly offensive to Nimoy and I stopped telling that joke after he died. I do find it odd that Section 31 taking orders from a computer ended up being canon, although it seems the idea originated in some tie-in novel.

Maybe Future Guy is Leland trapped in the 29th century? That'd be a cool way to tie into Enterprise.

Again I should note my frustration, considering the Spore Drive itself is also a time machine, more or less, meaning they could have undone the Klingon War last season.
Yeah, I have not seen the Short Treks but I know they find the Discovery 1000 years into the future, do they work out how it got there, does it look like its just been there for 1000 years or is it likely that Stamets is going to jump it forward.

As is always the case with tv shows they wont use the big macguffin until the end otherwise there is no show.

Gave this episode a "7."

It progressed the story fine, but is still largely dependent on how it all plays out. All in all I liked it.

My first thought regarding Burnham's mom was in a desolate future how did she survive? What did she do for food or personal hygiene? Kind of felt more MCU than Star Trek with the time suit and Gabrielle flying all over the galaxy in it.

Michelle Yeoh is so attractive and this episode almost had me thinking she wasn't going to survive her battle with LeLand.

Definitely going to re-watch this one.

I was wondering about that too. She seemed to have some gear in her camp, so maybe she salvaged or built a replicator? Or maybe some of her 800 trips are basically shopping runs into the past?

In my head canon Future Guy was a 28th century Romulan trying to either avert the Earth-Romulan War of the 22nd century or change the political balance of the Alpha Quadrant so that the Star Empire would actually win it.

After the 2009 film destroyed Romulus in the Prime Timeline a desire to undermine humanity and other galactic powers so that the Federation would never exist and thus be somewhat to blame in Future Guy's eyes for the destruction of his homeworld became an additional motivation in my own head canon.

Another terrific moment was when Mama Burnham was narrating how she watched her daughter´s entire life and SMG was doing that absolutely frozen face as if she was thinking: "Mommie, did you really saw every naughty thing I was doing in my private time?":lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
