I suppose TNG had their constant malevolent alien possessions.

And TOS had a continuous stream of duplicates, and Voyager reset buttons.

Plenty of exposition in this episode, sure, but overall an emotional joyride, thanks to Burnham Mom and Burnham. Not sure how Burnham Mom and her suit are tethered to the future, alone in a desolate future, but hopefully a better explanation is forthcoming, or not. Apparently, Burnham Mom has no knowledge about the different points of light that has appeared across the cosmic void. Georgiou thinks she knows more, but Burnham Mom has seen it all, again and again, in different timelines, and she thanks Georgiou, from one mom to another, for being there for Burnham. And finally time-shifting Control/AI seems to be a precursor to the Borgs (who knows), with all the suggestive nanites and machinery appearing on Leland's face, or it's just a snarky coincidence. Seemingly the AI wants it all and is not content with partial access to the Sphere's data...a questionable sign of a megalomaniac, ironic yes. And the sibling bonding continues with Michael and Spock, something I look forward to in the forthcoming episodes.

sigh. another generic episode, I was hoping for a massive improvement after the disappointing red angel episode but looks like this is not the case. I swear the last 2 episodes so far has been CW Show level writing.

I'm confused. Why does Isaacs' departure have anything to do with the episode being bad or not? He has been gone 14 episodes. I've thought this season has actually been fairly solid and consistent until this week. But I don't think Lorca not being a part of it has anything to do with it. If I have a concern, it might be if Kurtzman was starting to hand over control to Michelle Paradis as a test (and that's purely speculation on my part). If so, it does not bode well for season 3. That is a far bigger concern than Jason Isaacs having been gone for a year now.

The technobabble in this episode was particularly bad. Even Voyager writers were probably cringing at their TVs. Worse, the episode's plot largely depended on the technobabble solution.

I noticed a difference in the AA version and Netflix version: I saw on a screenshot from the AA version that the opening shot of Doctari Alpha has titles EMBEDDED on screen (which I love); the Netflix version does not.

 

[Burning Hearts of Qo'nos]

Gave it an 8, but was overall a little disappointed in this episode. The performances were, as per usual, fantastic. Mother Burnham was cast perfectly and her interactions with Michael were great. But what she was actually saying...all that stuff about time was a bit hard to swallow. It's like they took Soran's speech from Generation and made it sound even crazier. Lot's of stuff was going on in this episode and for the first time, it really felt messy for me. But performances, oh man! I love Michael and Spock together in any situation, they're great together. And this warm and fuzzy Spock I could get totally use to. I liked all the individual scenes and interactions, but altogether the episode didn't do it for me. The Control stuff has gotten boring and Robo-Leland is also boring. I'm just glad Ash has redundant organs.

Another great episode (give it a 9) and performance from Sonequa Martin-Green and Sonja Sohn which was really good casting. I hope that isn't the last we see of her. I like that the episode was slower and then ramped up at the end. Loved all the character moments this week. Clarity regarding Georgiou was really nice. It is as I assumed. For all her evil and manipulative ways she does genuinely care about Michael. It might be twisted in a way and her putting Michael in the place of her own Michael but there are real feelings there and Michael to a does care about her as well.

Oh I need more Michael and Paul team ups. I really like it when they're working together. The way people were dropping when Leland-Control beamed down I thought for sure Nhan was going to get it.

Nahan has already avoided dying twice this season by sheer luck.
She's got the smarts now to move as far away as possible from anybody who even looks like they have murder in their eyes, never mind brandishing two phasers and a phaser rifle.

That's actually how it's been for the entirety of the series' run: text like the close captioning for the Klingons is embedded into the video on CBS All Access, but regular close captioning is used on Netflix.

- When Michael came to at the beginning of the ep, did I hear Pike address her as 'Amanda'? Pretty sure he said that...

Just watching it again. He says "Welcome back, Commander". But the small pause could easily sound like "Welcome back, Amanda".
