USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

It put me off at the start as well but later I played it in my Trek playlist and gradually learned to like it very much, which led me to realise... who cares? The song represents Star Trek very well and fit the show it was composed for. My early reaction was basically the equivalent of "them damned kids and their loud music these days!" which is not very smart.
It has not improved for me at all, Star Trek themes should either have punch or be bordering on classical, none of the other themes ever caused me any issue and that includes Discovery which is more understated but works well.
The opening song is the least offensive part of ENT. It baffles me to this day that it colors judgement so much on the show.
Only certain parts of it are a problem of course, that being the music and the words.

The song talked of the heart yet it didnt really have any of its own and the music just sounded so generic and off the shelf.

Consider some of the excellent themes we have had relatively recently such as Daredevil, American Gods, Black Sails (brilliant Hurdy-Gurdy) and 12 Monkeys or even the X-Files.

The only other issue I personally had with the show was that much of the early story lines were just boring, such as the Xindi stuff I mentioned above, it did get better though but it took a season or two.

"Archer's Theme" would also have worked as the main theme to the series and brilliantly. I'm glad the producers kept the music in the series as the closing credits theme because it's a beautiful composition.

Since you said "should", I have to ask "why?".
Star Trek themes tend to have a feeling of motion and going somewhere whether that is at speed or slowly in Discovery's case.

The only feeling I got from the Enterprise theme was gentle spinning around on the spot and falling over, lots of talk in the song about going places but it never actual sounds or feels like it goes anywhere.

There must have been better alternatives to that.

As far as opening themes, the middle part of DSC's sounds like it's from a commercial for etrade or some other finiancial company.

I mean that literally, I just can't find the specific commercial.

It starts off subtle, than at 00:32 it goes kinda weak instead of taking off.

I love Discovery's theme, I think they did a great job. It's so recognisably Trek, but different. It you backed it with an old-school montage of ship shots I don't think there would be much criticism. Personally I like the titles too.

Yeah if they had gone with something like this for Enterprise I would have had no problem at all with it.

ST'09 is the best of new Themes. If they had that for STD opening it would be better than what we got (except for the last few "classical" TOS notes)

But again, opening theme doesn't really make or break the show anyway.

The Kelvinverse theme is just eight or perhaps four bars, sixteen notes. More of a motif than a theme, really. At least the TMP/TNG theme had eighteen notes for the AA' part and then eighteen for the BB' part before returning to A''; the Kelvinverse themelet has no parts, it merely repeats ad nauseam.

Call me old school, but I can't see the themelet becoming an opening theme, except perhaps in a podcast of some sort (six notes served Star Wars: Rebels just fine)...

I won't pretend I understand much (or any) of what you said, but I like the beat (unfortunately not enough shouting :))

I wasn't sure what you meant, having listened to the DSC theme so many times already. But this time, as it got to 00:32 (which is the portion that usually makes me think of the Fringe theme), sure enough: sounds just like a generic banking/insurance/corporate "we aim to inspire" commercial and now I can't un"see" it.

I can't judge that too harshly, as that's just ad agencies doing their job aping "cinematic" trends and Jeff fulfilling his brief of making it cinematic.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but glad I'm not the only one that hears it. Like @ITDUDE, the opening theme doesn't affect my enjoyment of a show. Hell, Orphan Black was the greatest show in 20 or 30 years for me, and it's theme song was....odd.

I'd generally agree, but if there will be a Pike spinnoff they better use the original TOS theme and there better be 'space, the final frontier...' narration, or I'll riot!

Well, I can't agree. I think the lyrics are sufficient in this case, and the refrain does go somewhere, at least as music goes.

My original hatred (probably too strong a word) of the ENT theme gave way to confusion, and as time has passed, it's become the most positive attachment I have to ENT. Rather than it not being a good fit for Trek, I tend to wish the show had been a better fit for the theme! I wish ENT had as much charisma as a bland but energetic 80s ballad.*

*I have a special love for ENT and this is not meant to trash it!

WRITER 1: So... how can we make it 25% different?

WRITER 2: What if... Space, the Finite Frontier?
