Well, I wanted an example from every show.;) Who else would you suggest for the Voyager spot?
As Voyager is the Trek I have least watched (I've seen all of it twice, but fewer than 5 episodes in the past 15 years), I'd have to do a rewatch to be sure. I only picked on Tuvix because, among those in your list, he seems to be the most polarizing on the "sympathy for/hated" scale.

Captain Ransom, perhaps? maybe Lon Suder? Both are characters we didn't get much time with who willingly sacrificed themselves for the greater good despite being personally compromised.

Airiam's a sort of poor example because we still saw very little of the "real" Airiam talking. Half of her showcase episode was her being controlled by the evil AI.

Me, I felt far more sympathy for Lon Suder. Or at least as much I could for a Voyager character.

I honestly can't recall that character. If I had to guess, it would be the one played by Brad Dourif, but I'd not wager more than a dollar on that.

She's a perfect example. The bits we see of her with her crewmates and fiance serve to make her someone we know and like in a very short time.
Fair enough, I guess technically we were all watching the same episode. But having a somewhat likable character of a few minutes and then trying to shoehorn in drama for Nilsson not "living up" to Airiam still isn't making sense to me in my opinion.

What is there to live up to? She obviously doesn't have the cybernetic components for large data processing, so it's unfair to expect that of Nilsson. Living up to being lucky to have a husband and being a good kadis-kot player?

To put it bluntly, as long as Nilsson shows up to duty on time and follows orders, there's not going to be any drama about her "living up" to Airiam.

There's no way to know until and if the writers do something. We're just discussing how it could be done and how it's been done. It could just be a few short scenes. Maybe a reaction shot or two. Not unlike what went on between Burnham and Detmer when Burnham showed up on the Discovery.Or it could be something more indepth like what went on between Saru and Burnham. It won't about Nilsson's data processing speed, her marital status or gaming skill. It would be about how she fits in with Airiam's friends and their feeling of loss. That's where any potential drama lies. I think most people can relate to someone new joining a group and trying to fit in. Especially if they're filling a void left by someone well liked by the group.

Maybe I'm just jaded since in my real life office work environment, tons of well-liked people have left and been replaced by other people and it's just another day at work. Nobody seems to care overly much as long as they get their work done.

Not a work environment, I'd enjoy. The crew a Starship is a bit different as they are together on and off duty. I had a group of friends in college we worked together and spent a lot of our off time together. Maybe too much.

Well considering everyone's generally nice and supportive, it's fine for me. I'd think a work environment where you're trying to live up to some unknown predecessor probably would be more stressful.

But not really the "work" aspect we're talking about, the friendship part.
