Such a lot of subject divertion on this thread
I gave the episode a 7, its not too bad, its not great.
Two things that's annoying me, firstly, these new Discovery Shuttles.
They seem to cover vast distances, when in my understanding, they were always Impulse vessels for short distance, now we have Shuttles at warp.
Secondly, in the vast expanse of space, endless space, that Talos IV is designated with an eight digit figure as it's co ordinates, surely that can't be right ?

There were warp capable shuttles in TOS.

Sounds fine to me. The numbers might be relative to only Federation space.

I may have had a memory faux pas
Was it not a six figure co ordinate ?
Warp capable shuttles in TOS, really ?
I must have been dreaming.

Seeing this thread pop up again reminds me of a question I had about a particular scene: When Michael and Spock are on the Section 31 ship, what exactly does she mean when she says to him: „Knowing you, you made something beautiful out of those mirror images.“ What mirror images? Did I miss something?

photographs from the Terran universe that Burnham took while she was there. She sent them to her brother after returning to the prime universe with hopes he would make a pretty collage out of them. Instead, Spock, with his scrambled brain, just looked at them and suddenly developed the desire to grow a beard. That's what Burnham commented on: Spock's majestic beard.

As beards go, it's not that majestic

*strokes the tem hairs on his chin that he called 'beard' for two decades now*
well...to some of us...it certainly is

This episode establishes that Spock has a dyslexia-like learning disability which he inherited from Amanda. The implication is that he (sometimes) sees (some) things (such as strings of numbers, in this case) backwards. This was discussed in the scene where Sarek discovers Michael and Amanda with Spock, and again by Burnham and Leland aboard the Section 31 ship, thus setting up her ultimate realization that the coordinates Spock kept repeating were reversed.

The "mirror images" in question are Spock's perceptions of the world.

there was no major upheaval in federation history between kirk and picard which means they both played by the same rulebook. if they did have the same rules kirk needed to be courtmartialed every third episode or so - the other possibility of course is that that frenchman ist the bigliest sissy ever to command a federation starship :D

Hm, rewatching those scenes I still think her ”making something beautiful out of your mirror images“ remark came out of the left field. I don‘t think it‘s mentioned at all that he perceives things in reverse or mirrored. And even if it would be common knowledge that dyslexic people see things in reverse, what would he ”make“ out of those images? How does this make any sense? It‘s almost like she‘s referencing a cut scene or something.
