Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

I recently started listening to Nerdrotic's YouTube video and podcast. He's a San Francisco based podcaster who has a credible resume. He is also friends with Midnight Edge folks but independent in his productions. I have to say I agree with much of what he says and I disagree with much as well.

Upfront he is not a fan of Star Trek Discovery. He feels it is not "Star Trek." I do. I believe it is the best Trek in twenty years. He is floating the theory that CBS is unhappy with STD's performance, will make Burnham a captain by years end and then either split season 3 into 2 halves or have a two abbreviated seasons ultimately followed by cancellation. Again, I disagree. Discovery appears to be achieving CBS goals for it's All-Access streaming service. I doubt very much CBS is looking for it to perform on par with a broadcast series (such as Orville which he loves). CBS is in the establish and growth phase and are therefore weighted towards prestige.

Overall I enjoy his podcasts as they are pretty moderate and gets one thinking.

It is one of the reasons people give in polls, anyway. Also, stop trying to destroy our friendship. THE HEALING MUST BEGIN!
;)

I would be the last person to try and upset the applecart of French-German relations, however, Last time I was in Germany I heard Angela Merkel telling anyone who would listen: "What Does "Maginot Line" mean in French? "Speed bump ahead"" and " What’s the new French flag look like? A white cross emblazoned on a white background!"

I'm sure she didn't mean anything by it. ;)

This is known as the art of diplomacy-the ability to tell your audience to go to hell in such a way that they not only thank you for the directions but are looking forward to the trip.

Everyone's going a bit crazy over Red Angel theories. I love it! Bring on the speculation. Most likely there'll be a lot of disappointment when it's finally revealed, but I'm still along for the ride, no matter what.

Since DISCO used to get criticized for too much blue palette... here's a little NC Jazz to chill out to. Maybe Spock's the Blue Angel? ;)

Don't blame me. I didn't vote for her!

Other than the fact that Nerdrotic hasn’t predicted one thing accurately yet.. I do have to take issue with one thing. Discovery DOES perform better than Orville. In fact, there is no competition. Discovery is shown all around the world in almost 200 countries. In many of these countries, it’s in the top 5 streaming shows (if not #1 like in Germany). CBS All-Access currently has 4 million subscribers. The Orville gets between 2.5 and 3 million viewers a week (but in network tv where you need more numbers to succeed compared to streaming or cable). The Orville might get cancelled, Discovery has already been renewed and there are 4 more Star Trek shows being developed.

Just look at a site like TV Time which allows users to track and discuss the shows they’re watching. Discovery has over double the amount of people tracking it.

I'm familiar with Nerdrotic. I'm not seeing how Burnham can become Captain by the end of the season. If Pike goes, Saru turns out to be unfit, and Ariam does as well, then maybe that gives Burnham an opening, but I can't see her as being more than Acting Captain.

If it were just Pike who had to leave, I could see it; but Burnham has to climb over two other people AND Starfleet Command has to be convinced.

I think Burnham needs to officially have another stint at XO first. It's a position she's well suited for, and it would be more respectful towards Saru who is technically first in line for a promotion to the chair. I can see her getting a first officer promotion and holding it for a couple of seasons, if Saru gets the captaincy and Airiam is out of commission.
