Star Trek Discovery Renewed For Season 3

I think the biggest problem with the show, for me, is I've yet to be hooked by it. There's nothing about it that I go "Wow, I can't wait for next week!!!". It isn't "good", it isn't "bad", it is just kinda there. I think I'm a week behind, might get to it this weekend if time permits, but there is a lot of other things I'm wanting to watch. Including The Umbrella Academy.

For me, DSC is the 1st Trek series since middle season TNG when I was in High School that HAS made me highly anticipate a new episode. Hell, I got 6 texts this morning from friends all over the country saying variations on "Trek day!" "Disco Day is here!".

Same here.

Two of my very best friends...virtual brothers...I met both because of Star Trek. Our friendship has long-since developed in so many different directions. But I always felt bad that Star Trek kind of got stale for us and we didn't really have the reason or vehicle to have it as a centerpiece any longer.

Then, DSC hit and everyone was excited. My phone blows up every Thursday...we send each other texts. I get regular messages with merchandise suggestions or things they have bought that are Trek-related. One of those buddies and his wife came with me and my wife to Ticonderoga (Star Trek Set Tour) last Spring to see Shatner!

Everything is exciting again on the Trek front. It feels like middle school all over again.

It just needs to be a fun or thoughtful story in a cool setting that inspires the imagination a bit.

You're describing Star Wars, not Star Trek, which is a stream-crossing issue that Discovery is guilty of, courtesy of Alex Kurtzman.

As far as having something to say, Discovery feels mostly empty so far, at least to me.
Oh it does have something to say, but whenever Boringham's opens her mouth my eyes glaze over, I pass out and I wake up 5 min later with a bad headache.

I think those are just there to remind us she's the star at this point.

Oh it's awesome! I binged it in two evenings. Though Ellen Page irritates me to no end. It would be a 9 without her, with her it's an 8

Both have been very similar for far longer than Kurtzman's involvement in the franchise.

This pretty much sums up what happened without any guessing or rumors....

"Michelle joined us midway through season two and energized the room with her ferocious knowledge of Trek," Kurtzman said. "Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the Trek legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward. I’m proud to say Michelle and I are officially running Star Trek: Discovery together."

Kurtzman picked her, so if he was 'demoted', he did it to himself.
He HAD to take over when the current showrunners were removed (due to complaints by the Writing Staff - enough that CBS did investigate and remove them). She was probably hired with the expectation she COULD become showrunner if:

- ST: D was renewed for Season 3 (It has been.)
- They liked her work, and she was shown as a good fit with the writing staff they had for ST: D.

So do I. You're welcome.

As many times as these folks have predicted cancellation, it seems at some point they'd scamper off with their tale between their legs.

I know I couldn't take that kind of consistent embarrassment.
Why? At some point they'll actually be right (every show gets cancelled eventually) and then start to claim every season was some sort of 'failure'. ;)
